Exodus 19: In the third month after their departure form the land of Egypt… the children of Israel came to the desert of Sinai… they pitched camp… The Lord told Moses, “I am coming to you in a dense cloud, so that when the poeple hear me speaking with uyou, thye may always have faith in you also.”

***The Lord [said]: "Go to the people and have them sanctify themselves ***today and tomorrow. Make them wash their garments and be ready for the third day; for on the third day the Lord will come down on Mount Sinai before the eyes of all the people.” [T]here were peals of thunder and lightning, and a heavy cloud over the mountain, and a very loud trumpet blast, so that all the people in the camp trembled. But Moses led the people out of the camp to meet God, and they stationed themselves at the foot of the mountain [which was] all wrapped in smoke, for the Lord came down upon it in fire. The smoke rose from it as though from a furnace, and the whole mountain trembled violently. The trumpet blast grew louder and louder, while Moses was speaking and God answering him with thunder. When the Lord came down on the top of Mount Sinai, he summoned Moses to the top of the mountain.

Responsorial Psalm: Dn 3

St Mt 13:1—27:**

The disciples approached Jesus and said, “Why do speak to the crowd in parables?” He said to them in reply, “Because knowledge of the mysteries of the kingdom of Heaven has been granted to you, but to them it has not been granted. To anyone who has, more will be given and he will grow rich; from anyone who has not, even what he has will be taken away. This is why I speak to them in parables, because they look but do not see and hear but do not listen or understand. Isaiah’s prophecy is fulfilled in them, which says: You shall indeed hear but not understand, you shall indeed look but never see. Gross is the heart of this people, they will hardly hear with their ears, they have closed their eyes, lest they see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their hearts and be converted and I heal them. But blessed are your eyes, because they see, and your ears, because they hear. Amen, I say to you, ***many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see ***but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.”

*I love the way God speaks to Moses “face to face” (as is says in another psg)… I wonder how many of our spiritual leaders he really speaks through today? Just wondering… I know He always speaks through the pope (always when ex-cathedra statements are made at least…)

In the gospel it seems Jesus is saying that people are deliberately* not hearing what God has to say… (unlike Moses… :()

not that they don’t (innocently) fail to understand… big difference…

… Just my opinion but it seems that some people on these forums hear Catholic teaching but defy it endlessly… they “listen but do not hear”… have stopped up their ears… *

hey Cheeto, where are you??

just wondering… always wondering… 🙂

If you don’t see me, it’s because you weren’t here when I got here, and I start
a new thread called “so let’s talk about today’s readings”, that is where I wondered
today…

Now that you mention it, I also wonder if God is speaking to any of our leaders
today, or anyone.

I do not feel the way you do about those who seem unwilling to listen to sound
Catholic doctrine. They are here on the Catholic forum, and that is enough. It’s
like they instinctively know that the Catholic church is the way, even though it
goes against all their logic. It reminds me of a child questioning its mother
about various different scenarios and would she still love him? No matter what
he comes up with she must always say “yes, I would still love you”. It is up to
us to remain the way, the truth, and the life for Jesus, we are His body now.
It is not us who converts someone, but God Himself. No one will ever be converted with the help of insults or ridicule, so if we get in a position that that’s all we can
do to help God, we have to just be quiet, because we’re not helping any more.

Sorry about your lost disc… I get the readings from USCCB on the internet…

i got to thinking about that statement i made almost as soon as i quit CAF that day… i shouldn’t have worded things that way because there are people here honestly trying to get answers…didn’t want to include them… but i also think there are a few … who just like to antagonize… or something… I’ve been in discussions w/ that kind of poster & they just go on and on… seemingly asking the same question in different words or whatever… & not really having a rebuttal but givng one anywya via a slight change of subject or whatever… just to… i don’t know… keep us Catholics engaged in useless dialogue… ??

I just feel there are posters who waste our time… because they don’t really want answers… God knows what they want… In any case, whether i know a person’s motives or not and technically, i canot know such things… i have to make a decision whether or not i will … “waste time” or not…
I think someone once called lthem “trolls” … though not sure i know exactly wht a troll is…
anyway… whatever… 🤷

Troll: A mythical creature/fable which is very bad tempered – hides under bridges – and antagonizes anyone who tries to cross it. They either extort fees or make the bridge useless.

By analogy: a person who uses the forums as a means to antagonize other people while hiding behind a screen (a.k.a. under the bridge). In order to clog up the works, they purposely make statements that irritate people and cause them to react – a troll is happiest when a fight breaks out…

So, yeah – I think you have it right.

BTW: Isn’t it interesting that God speaks to Moses in order that the people will believe and respect his authority? I mean … they still don’t! Whole grownup groups of tents are swallowed up by the sand in sink holes because they won’t listen to Moses. And still people won’t believe him or respect his words…

…and so is the devil! he’s laughing at us!

Have you ever heard someone say that they hate God? I have, and they are not
doing it to purposely try to irritate God. They are just very upset about whatever
has happened, and they figure God is big enough to take it. Well, He is. And I
think many people think Catholics are “big enough” to take whatever they dish out
too, as if they instinctively know that the Catholic church is the one true church.

There are also some people who are trying to show us Catholics the error of our
ways. They are sure their way is right, and really, they are just trying to save our
souls!

One time as an old teenager, I wrote a letter to a radio talk host, and I didn’t want
him to just scan it and throw it away, so I started it with an attention getting line
designed to irritate him, just so he’d answer my letter! I said, “Once again your
words sound much more logical than your actual thought process”. Well, he
answered my letter all right, he read it on the radio! I look back fondly on that, I
felt so important about myself. So maybe even if someone really is trying to
irritate you, they just want answers. Is that so bad? Are we big enough to take it?

About Moses: yes, it is amazing how little he is respected.

thanks… I knew the 1st definition but wasn’t sure about the 2nd (i-net forum trolls)…

you mean you aren’t going to pounce on me for being “mean-spirited”… 😃 cool.

yeah and today they don’t listen either… except to false prophets… those who spout off about health/wealth/prsoperity… blah blah blah…

and ignore the true prophets… orthodox priests/bishops/pope who speak of crosses (etc) and such… stick to the True Faith despite what the world wants to do… .:hmmm:

i’ve been angry @ God many times in my life, even swore terrible things at Him…

i didn’t do it in front of anyone, though… they wouldn’t u/stand…

it was something between me & God…

sometimes pepole say such shocking things just to get attention… and if a person is trying to get attention from pepole, they are on a wrong track…

human relationships, obviously… can nevre satisfy…
