Exodus 2:1-15:
A certain man of the house of Levi married a Levite woman who conceived and bore a son. Seeing that he was a goodly child, she hid him for three months. When she could hide him no longer, she took a papyrus basket, daubed it with bitumen and pitch, and putting the child in it, placed it among the reeds on the river bank. His sister stationed herself at a distance to find out what would happen to him. Pharaoh’s daughter came down to the river to bathe, while her maids walked along the river bank. Noticing the basket among the reeds, she sent her handmaid to fetch it. ***On opening it, she looked, and Lo, there was a baby boy, crying! She was moved with pity for him and said, “It is one of the Hebrew’s children.” ***Then his sister asked Pharaoh’s daughter, “Shall I go and call one of the Hebrew women to nurse the child for you?”

“Yes, do so,” she answered. So the maiden went and called the child’s own mother. Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this child and nurse it for me, and I will repay you.” The woman therefore took the child and nursed it. When the child grew, she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter, who adopted him as her son and called him Moses; for she said, "I drew him out of the water." On one occasion, after Moses had grown up, when he visited his kinsmen and witnessed their forced labor, he saw an Egyptian striking a Hebrew, one of his own kinsmen. Looking about and seeing no one, he slew the Egyptian and hid him in the sand. The next day he went out again, and now two Hebrews were fighting! So he asked the culprit, “Why are you striking your fellow Hebrew?” But the culprit replied, “Who has appointed you ruler and judge over us? Are you thinking of killing me as you killed the Egyptian?” Then Moses became afraid and thought, “the affair must certainly be known.” Pharaoh, too, heard of the affair and sought to put Moses to death. but Moses fled from him and stayed in the land of Midian.

Psalm 69

St Matthew 11:20-24:

Jesus began to reproach the towns where most of his mighty deeds had been done, since they had not repented. "Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! for if the mighty deeds done in your midst had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would long ago have repented in sackcloth and ashes. But I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you. And as for you, Capernaum: will you be exalted to Heaven? You will go down to the netherworld. For if the mighty deeds done in your midst had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. But I tell you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom on the Day of Judgment than for you."

*So… Moses was a “murderer”… and yet he is later spoken to by none other than God himself…

Well, some would call Moses a murderer… but - unlike those who would make an issue of a murderer [Tiller…] being killed (something i say is just justifable capital punishment) - God didn’t seem to have a huge problem with Moses taking the life of the Egyptian… and the Egyptian wasn’t even a murderer… It just says that he struck a Hebrew (one of God’s chosen)… hmmm… very interesting… I wouldn’t now be thinking about this if it weren’t for some comments made at the Thread about Tiller’s Killer - What is he Guilty of?

*I have to admit i am a little confused… I can understand God condoning the death of a murderer… but in this first reading… hmm… :hmmm::confused::coffeeread:

2nd psg: Looks like Jesus is saying that Hell is far worse than what happened to Sodom and Gomorrah (?)…

whoa… There’s something worse than perishing in a conflagration???

If that psg doesn’t put the fear of God in you, nothing wil… **

I don’t think God condoned the murder, any more than He condoned Adam & Eve’s
sin. They were deliberately disobedient, yet He gave them children. They were
happy with the children God gave them, yet they didn’t say, “God doesn’t mind our
sin”. God had a plan for Moses, and He carried it out, that doesn’t mean He
condoned the murder.

On your second point, Is Jesus saying that was Sodom’s purgatory, or that there
are different levels of hell?

I look at the first reading and think about my anxiety / OCD stuff.
The next time it gets really bad – I’ll just say to myself:
Relax – remember? even Moses started out as a basket case.

If only it would work…

But, to your first comment – Cain murdered Abel who was just, far worse than Moses killing an Egyptian in a position to be insuring the infants were fed to the crocodiles and pregnant women miscarried.

Also, Moses was sentenced to death as a child… as were all Male Israelites. That way only Egyptians would be left to marry the Israelite women and recover the property…

On the other hand;
God spoke to Cain too…

Capital punishment is an ugly issue – as is the defense question: would it be justifiable to kill an abortionist doing a third trimester abortion – if he did it right IN FRONT OF YOU ? If it was your child ?

The answer is probably No. If you can stop the killing without killing…
I have weird nightmares sometimes…

But that’s Egypt – forced abortions.

The issue of Capital punishment is also ugly; There OUGHT to be no need for it – yet, one of the highest rates of murder is inside a prison.

But the problem is that capital punishment almost invariably comes down to a calculus of some sort – what is the bigger evil ? We don’t have the ability to see the future to know; and guesses are quite often wrong. If God doesn’t show the way, surely we will fail and do evil.

Damn the Devil.

i dont think it ws murder… probably accidental killing… In any case, there are times when God condones or more/less condones killing… We are not given details… but we are shown that no issue is made of it in Scirture…

i don’t believe the Sodomites made it to purgatory. Jesus said it is difficult getting to Heaven… after all the awful things thye did… i doubt they were the least repentant… If thye had been god would not have destroyed them…

there probably are levels of Hell just as there are levels of Purgatroy… and i have heard there are levels of Heaven as well…

i don’t u/stand this…

Cain didn’t keep on killing… like some serial killers on death row…
