“…not gold, frankincense, and myrrh
but the sacrifice and food they symbolize…”

I don’t understand why everybody is continuing to treat the symbolism as though it is somehow referring to the blood and body…go back and read it. It’s obviously in reference to the gold, frankincense and myrrh. Again, the “they” is referring NOT to the sacrifice and food, but the gold, frankincense, and myrrh, which symbolize the body, blood, soul and divinity.

If it were referring to the sacrifice and food it would read, “…not the sacrifice and food, but the gold, frankincense, and myrhh they symbolize.”

Think about it. :hmmm:

I se that now, but back in 2009, it sounded Zwinglian to me for some reason. I was a little overzealous back then, especially concerning the Eucharist. Thanks to you and some other posters, I can now see that prayer in a whole different light.

And the good news is…

…that was the LAST time we’re going to have to hear/pray that interpretation. Next year we’ll be using an actual translation of the Latin.

… Well, we hope … right ? They’ve been saying it would be ready “next year” for almost 10 years now…😉

Every once in a while our pastor reminds us with a big smile and tongue firmly in cheek - “Any day now…It’s coming any day now” . But last week, on a more serious note he asked us to pray for him because he would have twice as much to learn as the laity when the new Missal’s translation finally does come out “next year” he said.

Amen. These were my exact words to my family after leaving Mass that Sunday morning.

Thanks. It’s been busy–you know, all that “Christmas stuff”…🙂
What? Are you trying to tell me that priests are actually busy during Christmas? 😉

I am a convert, and graduated from a Protestant Bible College with an interdisciplinary in Pastoral, Educational ministry, and Communication. I often tell people, “Ah got uh heppin’ degree, ah lernin’ degree, un uh tawkin’ degree sost ah kin hep peopo bah lernin’ 'em how da tawk reeeel goood!” LOL.

But seriously, I just say all that to let you know how much respect I have for any man of the cloth, especially in the Catholic Church where responsibilities are endless. 👍
