Being familiar with the ‘quotes’ of today’s gospel, “Let he who has not sinned, cast the first stone” at the woman who committeed adultery. Nothing is mentioned about the man that she committed it with… We hear nothing of him, his sins in this case. I find that disturbing…Does he get forgiven cause he is a man? Why was there no mention of him at all?

Nothing is mentioned about the man that she committed it with… We hear nothing of him, his sins in this case. I find that disturbing…Does he get forgiven cause he is a man? Why was there no mention of him at all?

I think the fact that the man she was guilty of being with was not there shows what they thought of women back then and what they considered socially acceptable. We could assume that the identity of the male was known, especially since they were so convinced of her guilt. Chances are is that they looked at women who did this much more severely than men. Which is why Christ is so profound in defending her. All the others were ready to stone her until he points out to them that there is no one there (besides himself) who is with out sin. This is why they left one by one - their sin finally caught up to them. They realized none of them were capable of fitting the bill of being sinless.

We do not hear anything of the man getting his sins forgiven and we can probably presume that they were not (at least in that encounter). The main focus is that she was forgiven her sins. Her life was literally saved as those who were going to stone her began to leave. The point of this event in the Gospel is that Christ came to reconcile and forgive, not condemn.

It would be nice to know more about the man who was guilty of having acts with her but we don’t know. So don’t be disturbed. There is nothing that is recorded about this man - other than the fact that he too was guilty of adultery.
