My son only gets to see his children every other weekend. He and DGS love football and it is a major bonding tool to go to home games. He has 2 extra tickets and would dearly love to bring his toddler daughter and me this weekend. She is 19 mos. old. He is thinking that with me and the other relatives and friends, and taking the pac n play that it might work. I’m game. If she can’t make it all the way thru, he figures he can take her to the car or we can just leave early. He loves the kids dearly and doesn’t want to miss out on either one, or do either an injustice. Any comments or suggestions? If the marriage were still intact, he would leave her at home, but that sadly isn’t the case now.

I took both of my sons to baseball games starting at like 3 months and it’s great fun but very different than going with just adults. Both fell asleep at a SF Giants game recently (can’t blame them).

At 19 months she may or may not like it.Get her prepared by telling her about the game and maybe watching some on TV. I would also let her know that people will be screaming but it’s for fun not because something’s wrong. Don’t expect her to sit still for the entire game, or even a quarter. It would be helpful to have friends / family there to take turns walking her around if (when) she gets restless.

Also:

-Be sure to bring toys, diapers, snacks, warm clothing, sunscreen, etc.

-Play dress-up with team colors / gear

-Bring a camera, it is sooooo cute 👍

A toddler is not going to sit through a football game, I can tell you that right now.

Oh, we know that.😃 She doesn’t sit thru much of anything. Hence wondering if and how anyone has done it successfully.

Give it a whirl. This is one place you don’t have to worry about the noise she’ll make. And yes, one or the other of you will be walking around the concourse almost the whole time, until she falls asleep. Even if it’s a disaster, you’ll all be fine the next day.

Around here, football is a family event - in the stands are babes in arms and elderly great grandparents.

As long as you have adults/older kids who are willing to take turns walking her around when she wants to GO, you will have a great time. Go for it!!

in our family going to the games has always been a family affair so the difficulty just never arises. thankfully, unlike church, if they decide to scream they just blend in with the drunks in the bleachers, so nobody cares. bring lots of money, for most kids the food and treats are the biggest deal about any sporting event

I’ve always seen little ones at games with their parents.
Hope you have fun!

My wife and I take our 18 mo old and 3 year old daughters to every home game for BSU. They love it. My 18 mo old just likes to be held wherever we go. That is all she needs. My three year old is actually starting to learn the game. Last week she saw a fumble and screamed… “get it get it!!” Both of them signal touchdown when they hear it. We are fortunate that our season tickets are surrounded by many young families. No swear words, no hand gestures, just lts of fun. They both have little cheerleader outfits and we are fans all the time so they are used to football being something to be exited about.

Well, we went, and it turned our fairly well. She was interested the first quarter, fussed the second because she didn’t want to go to sleep, slept thru the halftime show:shrug: and 3rd quarter, and watched the end of the game, which was quite exciting.
We took the recommended juice boxes, snacks, and toys. The biggest difficulty was keeping her from eating popcorn off the bleachers (yuck), but we managed to sweep most all of it over the edge. All in all fine! Thanks for the suggestions, all.👍

we have a hobby with our extended family of visiting as many minor league ballparks as we can on our summer travels, and so many have family areas, playlands, picnic areas, and are so kid friendly, even the littlest ones love baseball! and so much cheaper than major league ball (and w/o the heartache of being an Indians fan). DH also gets to local community baseball and little league tournaments, he loves baseball in any form, and we have been to little league World Series several times because it coincided with business or vacation trips, and we usually have some grandchildren in tow. Down Here HS football is a whole-family event and kids are expected.

I never did it, but I see no problem with it. I agree its best not to break up the kids and all should go together. Ball games are not sacred events so if the child is unruly, it won’t offend anyone.
