What should a faithful, orthodox Roman Catholic think of this historical figure?

The same as a reasonable person of any religious faith or of no faith should: that, by all accounts, Tomas de Torquemada was not acting as a true Catholic or Christian in his involvement in the torture and murder of countless supposed heretics. Unless, of course, there is some kind of revisionist history with regard to this historical figure that I am not aware of.

The horrific torture that could only be used in one session of no more than 15 minutes and that could not permanently harm or draw blood, you should see what Shin Bet does.

Because all of the Spanish Inquisitors had to be lawyers there is meticulous data to be re-examined and experts examining the evidence have shown almost everything people know about it is false.

Most of what people think they know about Torquemada comes from what most people think they know about the Inquisition-- which is a whole lot of myths and anti-Catholic propaganda which has it origins in the “Black Legend” which itself originated from English Reformation polemics.

If you would like information about the Inquisition based on current scholarship and not colored by anti-Catholic animus, see the articles at the links below (you may have to type keyword “Inquisition”):

Catholic Educators Resource-- Inquisition articles

Only after getting ALL the facts can one intelligently discuss this complex topic.

I think a strong opinion should be formed only after researching the history surrounding the Inquisition, and that the history should delve beyond that which is popularly advertised (which usually is a superficial judgement of a very complex situation).

I am so sad so His holy name is so badly slandered! He was a best man of the Catholic Church. He is my spiritual Father. I am sorry for my bad English, I am not English, byt my opinion is so Tomás de Torquemada must be canonized, and for my, He is a Saint!
Every day I pray for His canonization, about 20 yers, and I pray also so we have the Holy Inquisition back. But in this terrible age, also in Vatican are 95% modernists, and modernism, liberalism is the worst heresy in this age.
