What should a faithful, orthodox Roman Catholic think of this historical figure?
The same as a reasonable person of any religious faith or of no faith should: that, by all accounts, Tomas de Torquemada was not acting as a true Catholic or Christian in his involvement in the torture and murder of countless supposed heretics. Unless, of course, there is some kind of revisionist history with regard to this historical figure that I am not aware of.What should a faithful, orthodox Roman Catholic think of this historical figure?
The horrific torture that could only be used in one session of no more than 15 minutes and that could not permanently harm or draw blood, you should see what Shin Bet does. The same as a reasonable person of any religious faith or of no faith should: that, by all accounts, Tomas de Torquemada was not acting as a true Catholic or Christian in his involvement in the torture and murder of countless supposed heretics. Most of what people think they know about Torquemada comes from what most people think they know about the Inquisition-- which is a whole lot of myths and anti-Catholic propaganda which has it origins in the “Black Legend” which itself originated from English Reformation polemics. What should a faithful, orthodox Roman Catholic think of this historical figure?
I think a strong opinion should be formed only after researching the history surrounding the Inquisition, and that the history should delve beyond that which is popularly advertised (which usually is a superficial judgement of a very complex situation). What should a faithful, orthodox Roman Catholic think of this historical figure?
