Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Tomorrow some of us, God willing, will begin a 33 Day spiritual journey, preparing to Consecrate (or Reconsecrate) ourselves totally to Jesus through Mary. We will be following the program outlined by St. Louis de Montfort in his book: True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Some of us have read this little book many times, some may yet be unfamiliar with it. The most important thing, it seems to me is the desire of our hearts to love The Triune God more, through Jesus and Mary.
Above all else, guard your heart, for everything flows from it. – Proverbs 4:23
Some may have tried to read De Montfort’s book and gave up on it, or started the 33 Day Preparation and gave up on that too, but this is a new day and God’s Mercies are new in it. The link above is the online version of the book if you wish to read it, and each day, I will be posting something to help us through the various parts of the program as St. Louis wrote it. Here is how he described the first 12 days:
  1. Those who desire to take up this special devotion, (which has not been erected into a confraternity, although this would be desirable), should spend at least twelve days in emptying themselves of the spirit of the world, which is opposed to the spirit of Jesus, as I have recommended in the first part of this preparation for the reign of Jesus Christ. …
Actually, this special devotion is now a confraternity – see HERE. Originally it had been called Confraternity of Mary Queen of all hearts, but now is called Association of Mary, Queen of all Hearts.

Notice there are no special prayers suggested for these first 12 days by St. Louis. Some other books on this preparation make some good suggestions but please do not feel any burden to recite many prayers. If you simply pray one Our Father (the perfect prayer taught by Jesus) or a “Hail Mary” or “Come Holy Spirit” or “Jesus, I trust in You” – please remember it is the desire of our hearts to love God and all others because of God, that is most important. Prayer is more than words – it is our relationship with God. Some may want to pray in their own words or words of scripture, listening to God for light on how to rid oneself from the spirit of the world.

May the Lord bless all of us today, and tomorrow as we begin – Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your faithful and kindle in us the Fire of Your Love. Jesus we trust in You. Mary our Mother pray for us.
