it’s pretty obvious now that his conversion was all political and I would hope the Church will consider excommunication now

The thing is, many don’t take ‘excommunication’ seriously.

Excommunication ? Not likely. In the words of this weblog:

But they of course are not politicians. Here’s another angle, humorous for a change:

If anyone should be excommunicated…or at least slapped around…it should be the Bishop who knowingly allowed Blair to make a false Profession of Faith when converting. I won’t hold m breath though…

I was pro-choice when I converted. While not as prominent as Blair (though my wife, kids and dog seem to hold me in some esteem), my priest falsely instructed me in the “primacy of conscience.”

So, while I’m not sure he should excommunicated, as fellow Catholics, we need to admonish him, instruct him, and pray for him.

Well, many things can be said. I have some Catholic family members who are very close to me who are also pro-choice. When I went through RCIA I somehow failed to learn what a mortal sin was. But perhaps I was not paying enough attention. I am not casting aspersions at that parish. But the fact is that I didn’t know.

It’s true that one gets from an education, such as RCIA, what one puts into that education. In any event, I’m quite certain of the fact that, as an American, my forefathers sacrificed greatly so that I would not have to give a rat’s patootie about the British. And so I don’t. Not that I hold the UK or its subjects in any disregard, I just do not expect anything more from them than from any other nation… simply because we’re divided by a common language.

I don’t get how people, catholic or not, can’t see how abortion is a grave sin. It’s common sense.

Murdering = wrong
Murdering a baby = wrong

Regardless of what stage the ‘baby’ is at, it’s life, and proof by contradiction proves it’s human life. So murdering life that is human, whether or not there is a personality is obviously → wrong.

In the same regard, killing someone who is in a vegetative state = wrong. Just because they don’t have a personality doesn’t mean people have the right to decide on their life. The life doesn’t belong to them to choose about.

… So, while I’m not sure he should excommunicated, as fellow Catholics, we need to admonish him, instruct him, and pray for him.
I was convinced of the sin of abortion while I was Episcopalian by the writings and teachings of the few orthodox Priests and Bishops left in the Episcopal church. Surely Tony Blair can be convinced of its sin now that he’s Catholic. I would be great if our conversions were all revolutionary, but usually they are evolutionary, especially for those of us from protestant traditions (we all thought we had the right to interpret scripture IAW our conscience). I am still working hard to understand certain teachings of the Church. If I pray long and hard about my lack of understanding of a particular Catholic teaching, it helps. I am convinced that the Church is the foundation of ALL Truth.

The links provided thus far are not to news items, but to Blair bashing blogs. Most of the posts thus far are purporting to know the state of his heart, questioning his motives and his faith, and are condemning him. I am sorely disappointed in the direction in which this thread is headed and am closing it before infractions become necessary. Read the forum rules, folks. This kind of talk is not allowed here, nor should it be in a forum that calls itself Catholic.
