**Tony Blair To Visit Pope before Leaving Office **
London, May. 24, 2007 (CWNews.com) - British Prime Minister Tony Blair will visit Pope Benedict XVI at the Vatican before he leaves office in June.
A spokesman for the British leader confirmed that Blair plans to speak with the Pope about “interfaith” issues before he steps down, and mentions that Blair will also visit Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi during his visit to Rome.
Nevertheless the plans for the trip are sure to spark further speculation about the possibility that Blair will enter the Catholic Church after his resignation. Informed sources in Rome report that the Pope will receive Blair in a private audience on June 2. The Vatican has not officially confirmed the visit.
I pray that this is true and that Tony Blair becomes a Catholic.

Isn’t Tony Blair supportive of abortion rights and gay civil unions? I pray he becomes Catholic too, but also pray, if he does, he also changes his position on these issues (if I understand them correctly).
Yes he is. And I hope HH tells him he can’t become a Catholic until he renounces those views (esp. abortion). He’s been a very bad PM on moral issues, although better on others…

Just a reminder that discussion of possible conversions is a no-no. Discuss the visit only or the mods will close the thread.

Yes, he is both pro-abortion and anti-family. He passed a law forcing adoption agencies (including Catholic ones) to allow people with homosexual tendencies to adopt children.

I cannot see how he can be allowed in without first publicly recanting his opinions on these things. The fact is that even though he may not be a Catholic he has been seen to be close to the Church and therefore has caused scandal, and his acceptance into the Church without prior recantation would be an even bigger scandal.

Given his personal beleiefs how can he even be accepted for conversion?! Another reason I suppose the British church is in collapse and would be as dead as the Church of England if it were not for the Polish and Eastern European immigrants. This conversion is a perfect sign of what the church has become - if indeed he converts. It means nothing to anyone, but everything to everyone.

Whether in the US or England, this great “hope” of immigrants revitalizing the church will last what - one generation. If the church can’t convert the native born English or Americans to orthodox Chritianity then all the immigrants in the world will in the end prove as nothing.

That’s a very negative aspect and not at all true from my experience of being an English Catholic. My parish is packed on Sunday mornings, with a high birth rate and a young community. It has its problems, chiefly with poor catechesis, but it has hardly collapsed. Don’t generalise, or you are in danger of offending people.

Tony Blair’s visit to Rome would be the perfect time for him to announce his pro-life conversion and launch a last minute Repeal of the 1967 Abortion Act. (or is that just our dream?? 🤷 )

It’s a dream work praying for!
