Ever been too angry to go to Mass? I woke up this morning in a mood that increased as the minutes passed. I skipped Mass because of it, but now feel guilty. I didn’t go because I thought it would be disrespectful to go to Mass so angry.

I’ve had that happen, but still went to mass, and refrained from communion.

That’s happened to me too, and I did what Aggies08 did. Could you still attend a Mass before the end of the day? (I don’t know where you are; maybe there’s still a Sunday Mass to be celebrated somewhere near you…?)

My mood is still pretty foul and keeps getting worse. Honestly I feel like going to confession for my anger before I go to Mass.

Who were you angry with? God? :hmmm:

If not, why would you punish him for the lack of your presence at his Mass? 🤷

If I have learned anything on my journey, it is when my emotions/feelings are running high, and I feel like I have “too much to do” or that I am too “angry”, “sad”, busy", etc… that is when I NEED Mass most! :yup:

Not angry at anyone or anything, but am beyond cranky and am short with everyone right now. I know it sounds like excuses, but I rarely miss Mass unless for illness so this is a big deal to me to not go. I think I will go to church once Mass is over and pray alone.

Perhaps taking a minute to collect oneself would be prudent; a Divine Mercy chaplet or a rosary may help calm oneself as well as allowing one to achieve a prayerful mentality. Also, if you have mastered your anger, is there a later Mass/evening Mass that you could attend?

at my parish there isn’t. I think at some other local parishes there may be.

Yes, they are excuses. :tsktsk:
Sorry, but get yourself to Mass!!
We all have cranky, bad days but that is never an excuse to fail in our obligations.

Stop whining, get off the internet and go to Mass!!! :okpeople:

Yes it is an excuse. It is a big deal because it is mortal sin to deliberately miss Mass for no good reason. Being very cranky is just a mood. It is not a reason to miss Mass.

You may even find that the crankiness is gone by the time Mass is over, if you focus on worshiping God and offering up your foul mood.

It doesn’t magter if you were anygry or notk you should have attended the LIturgy.

When you go to confession, make sure you mwention this to the priest because if you continue to go to Holy Communion, this will make it sacreligious.

God loves you

Perhaps it is a ploy of the evil one to get you to refrain from going to Mass. Offer up your anger to God and see if you can go to a later Mass. If I could not identify why I was angry, then I would be suspicious of the source. This has happened to me many time. I woke up angry for no apparent reason. I offered it up to God and by the time I got to the Church the anger was gone.

Hey stuff happens…

…perhaps you can make up for it by going to mass Tuesday? tptb in the US Church have decided this anniversary of Roe v. Wade to be a day of fast, abstinence, penance…the whole 9 yards of humble devotion to forestall Gods predictable wrath against his abominable people aka as us.

It may be a ploy, in the past I had a very heated temper. I was quick to yell at people or just be plain rude. I feel like that today and honestly don’t want to yell at anyone.

The old saying “if you cannot control yourself (anger, sex, etc) then something else will” is a very true saying. If the evil one was lurking in your past in the form of anger, then perhaps you are being tried again. Start praying, the intersession of St. Benedict is very powerful. Pray for the strength of God’s grace to overcome this and get to Mass today if you can. I will say a prayer for you.

You wouldn’t be doing anything wrong by going to Mass and not receiving Communion. On the other hand, you would be doing something wrong if you didn’t go to Mass.

Then attend Mass at a church where no one knows you and don’t speak to anyone while you’re there. The only time you might have an opportunity to do so during Mass would be at the Sign of Peace, and then you could just offer your hand and a nod of the head.

I will remember you in my rosary today. I start in about fifteen minutes. God bless! :signofcross:

I think you should go to mass. If you think you should go to confession than refrain from Holy Communion but you are still under obligation to attend mass.

You’re still obliged to go to Mass. I’d suggest going to a different parish, sitting as far away from others as you can manage, refraining from communion (I’ve done that when I’ve been so angry I could just scream!,) and then spending a few minutes alone with Our Lord afterwards, tell Him how upset you are, and resting in His healing Presence.

Right now I’m recuperating from surgery but when I was working I used to go to Adoration after work at least a few times a week, and there was Mass right after Benediction. I don’t think I could count how many times the day’s events at work had me steaming by the time I left my job for the day. One time, in fact, when I entered the church I was still so ticked off that I plunged my hand in the holy water font and splashed someone nearby! I’ll tell you this, though: Ten minutes in Adoration would change all that, and I had no problem telling God silently about my day and all the irritation. I could literally feel His love for me as I felt muscle tension dissipate, a headache go away, and my stomach stop churning.

The Church isn’t a museum for saints–it’s a hospital for sinners and the hurting. See if there is a late Mass someplace today in your diocese, and go. You will feel better. I promise. So does He!

Jesus said for those who are well they do not need a physician, but the sick of body and spirit do- He is the ultimate physician. However, he cannot heal what ails you if you do not approach him.
