Too Many Medals?

Hi all! So I wear a Miraculous Medal and two saint medals (St. Bernard and St. Thomas Aquinas). I also wear a Jerusalem Cross on a separate necklace. I was wondering if one could wear too many medals if that were possible. I’ve read about people wearing anywhere from 1-4 at a time and wanted to know if there was an acceptable limit (I was thinking about getting one for St. Maximilian Kolbe and St. Anne but I thought it may be imprudent).

Also, if any of you have any saint medals that you love to wear, please share!
 
I personally wear 5, so I suppose I’m a bad Catholic. 😛

Which St. Bernard is your medal of?
 
My mother wore a pile of them LOL

But before she went there, she wore a 4 way medal. Problem solved.
 
Eh… 4ways dont really have that many patrons availible… Unless you patron is Mary, St. Benedict, Or St. Joseph, you’re out of luck.
 
Well yeah, but as patrons go, those are in the top 10, no? 🤣

I mean can you go wrong with a crucifix, a Miraculous Medal, A St Joe and a St Christopher? 💙

I wear a Miraculous Medal and a scapular. My dad had a St. Jude medal that was a gift when he converted, and he wore that often. I will put that one on when I need special help, like with a big test.

I don’t really like to wear a lot of medals. I like a lot of saints, so I would quickly end up in the “jingle as I walk” department. I worked with a guy once who wore so many he jingled. I made some remark chuckling about it and he took it as a put-down of his faith and got mad. Aside from that, I always worry too much about losing things I wear.

I prefer to put the saint medals on my rosaries. Less chance of losing them, more room for medals especially on a 15 or 20 decade rosary, and I can remember to pray to the saint when I pray on the rosary.

I know at least one person who wears 10 or more plus the scapular, of course.
 
It’s not a bad idea when hiking, though, it would kind of be like what people refer to as “bear bells.” 😃
 
I like to wear mine all at once like a Catholic Mr. T from the A Team. (not really… I don’t like the jingling sound either… removes the element of stealth.)

I’ve got medals that jingle jangle jingle as I go Catholicing along.

I wear a Miraculous Medal that I have worn since before my conversion with a crucifix and a Brown Scapular. That’s a lot of stuff around my neck as it is. I wear a Benedict Medal on my key ring and a St. Michael medal in my vest with a Blessed Karl on my chain.

It boils down to examining yourself and asking why you wear those medals ?

Is it to make yourself feel more Catholic or to impress others ?

Or is it an actual devotion to the saint the medal represents ?

Only you can answer the question.

Most people who advance in prayer, will wear one simple medal, generally a scapular or cross and it’s out of sight.

Disordered attachments even to religious objects was advised by St John of the Cross.

I heard some good advice regarding “devotions”

They should be “few, constant, and not get in the way of apostolate/acts of charity”
 
That sounds like a good quote. It has been a worry of mine too about wearing too many medals. I’m enrolled in the Brown Scapular and I always wear a Jerusalem Cross. In addition, over the last few months, I have started wearing the Miraculous Medal and 2 saint medals, one of my patron saint and the other of my favorite theologian. There are a number of other saints whom I constantly invoke (namely St. Ann, the patroness of my home parish, St. Joseph, St. Maximilian Kolbe, and St. Martin de Tours to name some). Of course, I am worried about wearing a medal for every saint that I think I pray devoutly too. I was thinking about maybe getting a prayer card of those saints and keeping them in my pocket, or something of the sort as a reminder to pray to them. I guess you could say that I am worried about too many devotions! :confused:
 
Depends on your disposition about the medals… do you think they have power or are they reminders for you?
