Too many rules in the Catholic Chruch?

We have six rules that everyone (assuming they are capable and that the opportunity exists) has to follow.

Go to Mass on Sundays and Holy Days.

Receive Holy Communion at Easter time.

Go to Confession at least once a year, and whenever you need to.

Don’t marry your near kin.

Fast and abstain from warm-blooded meat on the days appointed.

Give what you can to support your priest and the local church.

We have various other rules that select groups of people (ie: married people, altar servers, priests, CCD teachers) are required to follow - again, assuming that they are capable and that the opportunity exists.

For the most part, the rules in the Catholic Church are the sorts of things that you would do anyway, out of love for Jesus, if you thought of it. The rules just save you the time of having to think of it, and cut straight to the action.

The Church’s rules about fasting and abstinence “prepare us for the liturgical feasts and help us acquire mastery over our instincts and freedom of heart.” (, 2043Catechism of the Catholic Church)

The rules governing the Eucharistic fast can be found in the *Code of Canon Law:*Canon 919
§1 Whoever is to receive the blessed Eucharist is to abstain for at least one hour before holy communion from all food and drink, with the sole exception of water and medicine.
§2 A priest who, on the same day, celebrates the blessed Eucharist twice or three times may consume something before the second or third celebration, even though there is not an hour’s interval.
§3 The elderly and those who are suffering from some illness, as well as those who care for them, may receive the blessed Eucharist even if within the preceding hour they have consumed something.

Football isnt much fun when you dont follow the rules.

In fact they are there so that we can enjoy it to the full.

I see no difference with that to the Catholic faith.
