Too Modest to Tell Father

We are sinners. All this “humility” about being modest or embarrassed is another sin. Think of what we say “I’d rather die than tell Father that I’ve done such and so.” Well, that is what will happen if we don’t tell!

The priest in the confessional is acting as Christ. Tell him everything, just as you would tell Christ! Your immortal soul depends on your good confessions!

Wearing a veil is one idea. Buying an inexpensive screen and donating it to the church is another.

I was thinking about this too. I have realized in my life that shyness can be from PRIDE. I worry too much about how I will be received and what people will think of me so I will quietly sit aside. That way I won’t say “the wrong thing” and have people think something bad about me. This really isn’t modesty . We are not going to shock Father to death. What I think most worry about is that Father will think less of them. Even if that were true it is pride that worries so much that others think well of me.
Now saying all this I still worry too much about these things and it holds me back at times. I am so glad that we have the Sacrament so I can confess my pride.

I think that there is also a trap in the “I am so humble” thought. I could see me sometimes as the third person praying in the temple. There is the repentant Tax man and the Pharisee and then there is me. "Thank you God that I am not proud like this…"ooops “have mercy on me a sinner”

=MomandWife;9073123]Hello,
If I have a sin that I am too modest to tell Father in the confessional, will I not be forgiven? Specifically I am asking about the sin of personal gratification…
I am extremely shy, extremely modest, and never speak of these things to others. I feel like I would fall over dead if I told father about the “m word.” I could never even tell my husband, but less another man. I would really rather die. I want to be forgiven because I am sorry, but I honestly do not think I could make the words come out of my mouth to tell a man about personal gratification.
Do I have to tell him, or can I just say something like, “And other sins that I may not have mentioned?” This is just too embarrassing and too personal to talk about. I think I might rather spend eternity in Hell than tell Father that I’ve gratified myself.
IF IT’S A VENIAL SIN IT NEED NOT BE CONFESSED.

IF HOWEVER IT IS A MORTAL SIN [YOU DON’T PROVIDE ENOUGH INFO TO KNOW FOR SURE] THEN IT ABSOLUTELY MUST BE CONFESSED IN BOTH QUANITY OF TIMES COMMITTED AND THE DETAILS.

PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THE VOW OF PRIVACY CANNOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES BE BREECHED AND PART OF THE REASON JESUS INSISTED PERSONALLY ON THE SACRAMENT IS THE “EMBARASSMENT” FACTOR OUGHT TO INHIBIT US FROM SINNING EITHER SO OFTEN OR IN THIS PARTICULAR MANNER.

READ: 1 Jn. 1:8-10; 1 John 5:16-17 and John 20:19-23 and you’ll understand why this is.

I’ll pray for you too.

God Bless you,
Pat

Well, I know it is personal preference, but I always go face to face.

I just put it all out there, embarrassment and all.

“There, I’ve said my sins out loud looking you in the eye. Here I am Jesus, forgive me, please, I am a sinner.”

I don’t think you can tell a priest a sin he has not heard.

personal sin against chastity might also help. If he has any questions to better give him an idea to counsel he may ask. I am sure it will not be the first time he has heard it.
