Within the last few months I had started going to mass on both Saturday and Sunday specifically to recieve Jesus in the Eucharist more often. However, the Saturday night mass counts as a Sunday mass and uses the same readings. I was told by a boy younger than myself (whose father went to Steubenville) That I should not recieve communion more than once at masses that are the same (ie. saturday night and Sunday morning). I have no intention of dishonering the most Blessed Sacrament, but I do want to recieve Jesus more in my life. If I go to mass more than once in a day should i not recieve communion? Please help. 🙂

My understanding is that you can receive the Eucharist twice in one day (midnight to midnight). You can receive communion on both Saturday and Sunday.

How about three? I went to mass on Saturday night once, then Sunday morning for Choir, then Sunday night for Cantoring. Is that ok?

I don’t know the exact rule, but I’ve seen posted here and elsewhere that you may receive twice so long as the SECOND time is at mass.
Is this correct? If you are still troubled by this, are there any Saturday MORNING masses you can attend (non-Sunday vigils)? You can get different readings to mull over and perhaps it would be a great way to perpare yourself for the Sunday Mass. Regardless, I don’t believe you are in the wrong with what you are doing.

No, unfortunately there are no Saturday vigils. Otherwise I would probably go then instead.

My understanding is… as long as you are legitimately at that Mass for a reason (other than just to go) you are okay.

I was also taught when I was younger that you can receive our Lord twice a day at Mass, if you find yourself at Mass.

Moral of the story: I’m not sure it Matters, but going to MAss more than once in a day in order to receive Jesus more really doesn’t make sense, because once you have received him, you have recieved him completely.

I know several people that go to the Saturday PM vigil and Sunday AM Masses. They just don’t consider the Saturday Anticipated Vigil their Sunday Mass.

I had to play for two Masses in a row once and asked the Preist if it was okay to receive twice. He assured me that it was and told me that the rule regarding receiving communion more than once was to stop a practice that had developed where a person would show up to Mass just in time for Communion and leave immediately to head for another Church to do the same thing.
For some reason, I believe two is the limit though. (For some reason I believe it.)
I think even the priests are limited to how many Masses they can celebrate in a day, too.
I agree with bknebel that it doesn’t actually provide you with any additional grace or actually give you ‘more Jesus’.

You can receive twice in one day, for reference here is what is said in Cannon Law.

Can. 917 A person who has already received the Most Holy Eucharist can receive it a second time on the same day only within the eucharistic celebration in which the person participates, without prejudice to the prescript of ⇒ can. 921, §2.

The reason for this was as Joe said…People were rushing around trying to receive communion as many times as they could in the day.

And to add to Canon 917, a person could conceivably receive the Holy Eucharist THREE times if the third time was Holy Viaticum (during administration of Last Rites).

yup.

So, Blessed Rosary, you’re fine! Saturday PM and Sunday AM are okay. I’d say its a good idea to be closer to Jesus. Do you do Adoration/Holy Hour? That would be a great opportunity to be with him TRULY PRESENT as well!
