Who do you think are the top 10 most influential persons in history?

Mine are:
  1. Jesus
  2. The Virgin Mary
  3. St. Joseph
  4. Adam

Most influential? As in Time Mag’s “Person of the Year”?

I don’t see how you could exclude Napoleon and Hitler.

Clovis I, because of whom the West remained Catholic instead of Arian.
 
Most influential (not meaning that I necessarily like all of 'em!) - in no real particular order. Some grouped

Jesus Christ
The scribes and prophets of the OT
Mohammad and his followers
Greek philosophers - Socrates, Plato, Aristotle
Mohandas (the Mahatma) Gandhi
Siddharta (the Buddha) Gautama
Founders and inspirers of Communism - Marx, Lenin, Stalin, Trotsky
Leaders of the French Revolution - Marat, Danton, Robespierre etc
Queen Victoria
WWII allied leaders - Churchill, Eisenhower, Roosevelt

  3. Alexander The Great

That is not in order, but it is the top 10 most important people in history to me. Why? We’ll I’ll make it short.
  1. They both conquered large amounts of land, and both had to run it, which is a hard job.
  2. He taught peace to many, and many have been under his religion.
  3. Conquered great lands, encouraged the trade of culture to many.
  4. Showed the world that hate can be a strong power, killed millions of Jews cause he had a personal vendetta against them.
  5. By far my favorite founding father, for democracy and freedom.
  6. One of the earliest fathers of Democracy.
  7. Tricked Montezuma, conquered the Aztec empire with few men, killed thousands of indians.
  8. Has inspired many men to do great and terrible things, the founder of the largest religion.
  9. Inspired many men to do great and terrible things, the founder of a very large religion.
  10. Taught a very grand philosophy, gave a lot of people wise quotes, and I like him.
Short, and to the point.
 
This is a tough list to make, and I’d probably revise this list a bit over time. However, if you’re going by sheer influence, mine would look something like this. I’d debate adding Muhammad, Albert Einstein, Pablo Picasso, and Hammurabi to this list as well.

Ok, here’s the logic:
  1. The most influential religious leader of all time. Even Islam respects Jesus at least as a prophet, so his philosophy has influence over more than 2.5 billion people
  2. The inventor of the light bulb, phonograph, motion picture, electrical power plant, and ALL of our electrical infrastructure. Our entire modern way of life is based upon his inventions.
  3. Perhaps the smartest and most talented human being ever. His mastery of painting and the study of science allowed him to revolutionize the portrayal of the human form on paper, advanced medical science for the first time in 1400 years with his detailed anatomical drawings, and caused him to realize that things like airplanes and submarines were possible hundreds of years before they actually were.
  4. Issac Newton’s theories form the basis of modern science, spurred on the creation of the scientific method, and even invented an entirely new branch of math with calculus.
  5. This pick was tougher, as the spot could just as easily gone to Socrates or Aristotle. BUT… Socrates never wrote anything down. Everything we know about him comes from Plato. Plato also invented the dialogue, and he heavily influenced later Christian philosophy. Aristotle was equally important, BUT… was taught by Plato. So, Plato wins the spot.
  6. Alexander the Great wins the spot for being one of the world’s greatest conquerors. He holds the singular feat of NEVER having lost a battle. I thought about adding names like Ghenghis Khan to the list, BUT… Ghenghis primarily was a conqueror, whereas Alexander was taught by Aristotle, and brought Hellenistic Civilization to most of the known world. This brought a long era of peace and prosperity, and elevated those that he conquered, even the poor.
  7. Martin Luther was placed on this list because it split the Christian Church once and for all. His ideas of Protestantism actually transformed Europe, as the conflicts that he caused, culminating in the Thirty Years’ War, were so horrible, that most religious wars ceased in Europe after that point.
  8. He is on the list as perhaps the most influential artist of all time. His painting, sculpture, and architectural achievements are unmatched even to the present day, and influenced whole generations of artists.
  9. Caesar Augustus was chosen because although Julius Caesar starts the Roman Empire, it was Augustus that transformed it into the huge, relatively stable cultural monolith that it became.
  10. Adolf Hitler is on the list because he was so evil, he caused virtually the entire world to unite against him. The holocaust he initiated still serves as the benchmark for evil in the world, and caused the planet to rethink the way it deals with things like racism.

    He’s God.

    She’s the Mother of God.
  3. St. Joseph
    He’s the foster father of God.
  4. Adam
    He’s the first man.
  5. Eve
    She’s the first woman.
  6. Abraham
    He’s the “Father of Nations,” the Patriarch
  7. Moses
    God gave him the Ten Commandments, our moral code.
  8. St. John the Baptist
    He’s Jesus’ cousin, who prepared the way of the Lord.
  9. St. Peter
    He’s the first Pope.
  10. St. Paul
    His influence on Christianity was significant.
