I already gave you one superior idea, and you dismissed it. Whether you are attempting to evangelize as a parent, or on Facebook, or in any other situation, you will be totally ineffective if you’re just spreading a bunch of hocus pocus. No one cares about shrouds, graves, ghosts, or any other nonsense.
I beg to differ. The Catholic Church is the only organization that even addresses hauntings and excorcisms, and this is extremely fascinating to people. Angels are another powerful topic that captures people’s attention, at least as far as in my experience with non-Catholics.

For example, both of these topics have opened conversations up with two of my non-Catholic friends who believe in “LOVE”, the kind they’d write in cursive above their kitchen sink, but both HATE this idea of organized religion. They find it oppressive and don’t feel the need to think about it on a deeper level, until something unexplainable happens in their life–things they know are not coincidences. That’s when they both came to me for answers. Oh dear. This is part of what inspired me to make this list.

I appreciate your YouTube link, neophyte. I know I’d probably enjoy it…
Has it worked at converting your friends, especially those who are not curious or open to new possibilities, yet? Would a YouTube link get them to immediately get their mind to start asking questions? I usually skip over random links, personally, unless it has an incredibly concise and interesting/controversial title and I have some rare time on my hands.

Hmmm “Top ten things you might not know about my religion” ??
Ive decided I don’t like that title. It doesn’t even make sense. And it talks down to people, puts them on the defensive.

Maybe

I’m goin to bed.

And Tomdstone. You’re right. :dts:

Well then, perhaps we should come up with ten common misconceptions about Catholicism?
Now this would be fun.
  1. We worship Mary.
  2. We practice idolatry and pray to statues.
  3. We are preoccupied with guilt.
  4. We don’t read the Bible.

  4. We don’t read the Bible.
  1. Catholicism is the oldest and longest surviving organization of people in human history.
  2. The source and summit of our faith is the graves and bones of people that lived a couple of thousand of years ago, and you can get special powers by visiting them.
  3. We know the quantity of angels and demons that invisibly roam the earth.
  4. Jesus commanded the Church to construct doors for people to walk through to achieve salvation.

How to evangelize on Facebook? How about speak of your life and how your Catholic faith, prayer, the sacraments, etc. are changing you into the person Jesus Christ meant for you to be? How about starting a blog of apologetic topics? Why I am Catholic!

Even better yet, why not get off of Facebook and into real life. Volunteer at a homeless shelter. Teach a Catechism class. Start a solid Catholic Bible study. Take communion to your parish’s shut ins. Take your kids along with you so they can see the witness of your life.

Again, I truly believe your heart is in the right place. Have you prayed and sought Gods guidance and direction. That would be a first place to start.

Number 1,2,4 and 6 are either simply speculative without an ability to be proven as factual or simply in error, such as #4. If I recall correctly, too, that there was a site venerated in ancient times as being the tomb of Mary. Even #7 may be factually incorrect.
I agree that some of the stuff is speculative, but it’s a dogma of the Catholic religion that Mary was assumed into heaven, since she never had sin on her soul

I thought that Judaism, Hinduism, and Buddhism were older?
Well, those are religions are older than catholicism, not an organization. But I think the OP means as an organization with a hierarchy, which those aren’t

I would say that the OP’s list isn’t that bad.
would say though, to put that the Church teaches that the Eucharist is literally God, that the Mass in essence is literally being at the Foot of the Cross, and that the Church teaches that sins repented properly in this life, no matter how bad, can be forgiven, so that someone who was guilty of countless heinous crimes can go to heaven if they repent properly

Actually he is right about Christianity being the oldest religion on the planet.

If the trinity has existed forever than so has Christianity.

First of all, I’m a woman, because only women use rolling pins.

I’m talking about the organization of human beings

I’m very much regretting starting this thread, I didn’t want it to go into arguing the finer points of these speculations. I simply wanted to create a list that peaked an interest in my faith, with your help.

A blog is out of the question because I don’t have the time or the extensive knowledge to create content in support of Catholicism, and besides, I only see it preaching to the choir. A friend has an evangelization blog, but honestly, I’ve only ever seen Catholics commenting on it, anyhow.

I do agree with some posters that evangelizing has a lot to do with the way in which you live your life. People see the blessings, virtues, strength, and peace that radiate from a Christian life, and they want that, hopefully.
