the lack of a strong Emperor in the west
Is it too late to convince the Papa to accept the Capitani Reggenti Ernesto Benedettini and Assunta Meloni‎ of San Marino as Roman Emperor and Empress of the West?

San Marino is the oldest sovereign state and constitutional republic in the world, having been founded on 3 September 301 by Marinus of Rab, a Christian stonemason fleeing the religious persecution of Roman Emperor Diocletian. San Marino’s constitution of 1600 is the world’s oldest constitution still in effect.
The practice of multiple heads of state, as well as the frequent re-election of the heads of state, are derived directly from the customs of the Roman Republic. The Council is equivalent to the Roman Senate; the Captains Regent, to the consuls of ancient Rome.

After 1000 years, … what would they be in order of priority ?
Having been on the other side of the ecclesiological divide most of my life, I would proffer the following:
  1. Fear and distrust
  2. Pride
  3. Misunderstanding
  4. Lack of forgiveness of the past
  5. Ecclesiastical politics
As far as obedience goes, it is of no concern (or at least SHOULD not be) to an Eastern or Oriental Catholic. All apostolic Christians are required to be obedient to their bishop, and it does not cause us any loss of sleep, for obedience in the Christian dialect does not mean loss of freedom, but rather an expression of love.

It seems to me that any Christian who would view “obedience” as something bad is either a Protestant or a cynic. To a Christian, especially an apostolic Christian, obedience can ONLY be based on one thing and one thing ALONE —> LOVE. It is not based on fear, it is not based on obligation, but ONLY LOVE.

Marduk

What do you mean by “Eastern Church”? Eastern Orthodox or Eastern Catholic?

If you mean Eastern Orthodox, this forum is specifically geared toward the Eastern Catholics. Questions relating to the Eastern Orthodox should be put in the Non-Catholic forums.

They used to lump the Eastern Orthodox and Eastern Catholic posts into this forum, but they changed it some time ago. ?
Yes, I meant Eastern Orthodox …

I didn’t think there were 5 disagreements between Eastern & Roman Catholics … but, perhaps I was mistaken

For example … Eastern Catholics surely accept the Pope’s primacy ? And, they accept Filioque language … right ?

Are the Eastern Catholics more in line with the RCC or Orthodox Church — on ‘essential’ need for Theosis, with regards to Salvation ?

Your bishops are required to give obedience to the Pope, under the encyclical “Satis Cogitem”, among other documents. In addition, the Pope has “full, immediate” jurisdiction over every parish. If he wished, Benedict XVI could intervene in the smallest of matters in your church, without any approval by your bishop.
So under current official Catholic ecclesiology at least, perhaps the thread title is more accurate than you (understandably) wish to believe.
And the President of the United States could launch a unilateral nuclear strike against Canada on paper as well. While both are theoretical in a nonsensical fashion, the real praxis is much different.

The Union of Brest states in Paragraph 25: “That our Rus’ monasteries and churches should not be changed into Roman Catholic churches. And if any Roman Catholic has damaged or destroyed one of our churches or monasteries, in his territory, he shall be obliged to repair it or build a new one for the exclusive use of the Rus’ people.”

Dead on 👍

Why else did Christ make Peter [and his successors] the Rock ?
Why is husband assigned head role in regards to his wife ?

Even Paul strongly backed up Peter as Head of Church … and man as head over family matters.

Instead of trying to sort out conversations about Eastern Orthodoxy to place in Non-Catholic Religions from those about Eastern Catholicism to leave in this forum, editing for offensive language, and all that entails, I’m locking this thread.

Please start a new thread in NCR to discuss Orthodoxy’s reasons for not being in communion with the Catholic Church and/or a new thread in Eastern Catholicism to discuss the Eastern and Oriental Churches in communion with Rome. Please take care that word choices foster charitable discussion, dialogue, and debate when doing so.

If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please feel free to contact me privately.

May God Bless You Abundantly,
