Reminds me of one my favorite people. RIP Dom Bede Gorman O.S.B.
When he taught us Latin and coached, we had all heard the rumour that as young man he had been drafted by the Red Sox and turned them down in favor of the priesthood. Big and straightforward and formidable even in his sixties, he was as kind as anyone I ever knew.

May God bless you, Grant Desme. I’ll ask Padre Bede to pray for you.
 
this reminds of of the one priest, in the film Fishers of Men, that gave up being a baseball player and actor, and entered the seminary
 
This is one of the best stories I have read in such a long time. We can only hope that he becomes an inspiration to other young men to enter into the priesthood.

I just heard this on the radio and now you know as much as me, FWIW. But this guy won the Arizona Fall League Most Valuable Player award, so he’s “got some skills.” But it looks like he’s going to use his skills for the Lord! 👍

This is such a great story. This man gave up all his talent and potential to God. I wish this man many blessings.

Years ago, we met a seminarian who had been in the military, then the business world. He was making big bucks and, according to the world’s standard, living the dream.

He gave it all up to become a priest and was ordained in December. 👍
 
And yet you wouldn’t even believe the comments people make about him under the storay at Yahoo news. I forget how much overt hostility there is to our faith in this country until I look in the comments under almost any religion story…
