What spiritual read, other than the Bible, do you come back to over and over? What impact has it had on your life?
 
True Devotion to Mary by St. Louis DeMontfort is the one I come back to most, Pianofish, -----along with the Glories of Mary (St. Alphonsus) and the Psalter of the Blessed Virgin Mary (St.Bonaventure)

I’m learning from such books about how pleasing it is to Jesus to praise Mary, our Mediatrix and Mother, who loves us each, individually, far more than all mothers together have ever loved their children.

Her exquisite countenance and most-tender words draw us powerfully away from sin.

She is all humility, goodness, helpfulness, refreshment, and mercy!

She, our Mother, is the perfect and easy way to our Savior and God!
 
Mere Christianity by CS Lewis: probably the best Christian apologetic work ever done in English.
The Great Divorce* by CS Lewis: fascinating look at the human soul

*Confessions * by St Augustine: one of the first autobiographies and a great window into the inner life of a tremendous saint. Also very important philosophically and theologically.

*Phantastes * by George MacDonald: the book that changed CS Lewis’ life, as well as Chesterton’s. A great story of adventure, but also goodness

A Short Story of the Anti-Christ by Vladimir Solovyov: a glimpse into the human condition, especially as it relates to Christian division. Written in the 1890s, Solovyov accurately predicts world wars across Europe resulting in a Jewish state in Palestine, the EU, and secular humanism with its focus on environmentalism, moral relativism, and animal rights causes as replacements for religion. The book is really about the appearance of the antichrist and the coming together of Christians under this persecution, with Orthodox and Protestant leaders recognizing the authority of the Pope. I also have made very good use of True Devotion to Mary by St. Louis DeMontfort…so many blessings!

A perfect companion to that book is “33 Days to Morning Glory”.

Our Blessed Mother is such a special gift to us given by her Son at the foot of the cross.
 
The Imitation of Christ - Thomas à Kempis

My personal favorite and the one I keep coming back to.
 
A new book called Christ and Our Lady by the late Mother Angelica is very good!

Also, anything by Matthew Kelly, especially Rediscover Catholicism, Rediscover Jesus, and his latest book Resisting Happiness. These are the ones I have personally read, and they really get right to heart of things.

Yes, Dorothy, I agree that 33 days to Morning Glory is a good companion to True Devotion to Mary.

I love what Fr. Gaitley teaches about living in Mary’s Immaculate Heart, and how Jesus thirsts for us.

And I love True Devotion to Mary. It has brought so much peace and purpose into my life to depend on Mary and to surrender my will to hers, for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Her name is spiritual honey.

Her heart is a bonfire of mercy.

She loves each of us more than all mothers, combined, have loved all their children.

She is the pure Tower of ivory, where we are safe from all our enemies and temptations.

She is the Mother of God, who is Infinite Goodness!
 
The autobiography of Saint Teresa of Avila has had a great effect on me. 40 years ago I read it about every year, and now I finally am reading it again with great spiritual benefit. This has been recognized as on of the great spiritual works of all time. Edith Stein happened across it and read the whole thing in one night. She said “this is the truth,” and became a Catholic. (Since then Edith Stein has been canonized.)

She is such a great gift to us! Reading those books by St. Louis and then Father Gaitley helps us to understand better about “going through Mary with our prayer and activities”. We are acknowledging that she was so privileged by the Lord for our sake!

His book “Under the Mantle” is waiting to be read next.

Very inspiring writing about how various rosary devotions evolved over the ages!

I have his DVD “Extreme Mercy”…and have shown it to so many people. Wow!

Dorothy, I’m so happy to hear that you have the book. It is exceptional. I can’t say enough superlatives about it. I am so grateful to him for writing it. If I could afford to buy a carton of the books, I would and hand them out to others and leave them for the taking in our Blessed Sacrament Chapel.

I am going to get “Under the Mantle” and I think it’s called Rosary Gems.

Father is a miracle of grace.

And, in these troubled times we need to learn more about the special role of our Blessed Mother and let other people come to know of it as well.

Yes, I agree Dorothy. Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary is such a blessing. My life was so hard before I made my consecration according to the teachings of True devotion to Mary (St. Louis De Montfort). Now I still have my crosses, but they are sweet, because of the maternal presence of our Lady…

Mary is so kind! All glory to Jesus Christ for giving us His own beloved Mother!

This past Christmas a dear friend of mine from where I used to live wrote in her Christmas card that she did the “33 Days to Morning Glory” book and it added something special to her prayer life that she never felt before. I am not surprised!
