Whether you are Catholic or not, you recognize there are significant differences that divide Christianity.

Based upon what you have seen in this forum or upon the issues that are most critical to you personally, please identify what you consider to be the “top ten” most commonly argued issues. For example: Mary, Papacy, Inffalibility, Sola Scriptura, Purgatory, etc.

Pretty much everything else that can be argued (Mary, the Pope, saved by faith alone, purgatory, ect…) is based on the issue of authority.

Does this authority come from Scripture alone, if so then Protestantism is true.

If this authority comes from Scripture, and the teaching of the Church through Tradition and the Magisterium, then Catholicism is true.

from working with converts outside the forum I would list
  1. Marriage in the Catholic Church (their marriage)
    2T) the difference in Catholism verses Protestant
    2T) Pope which they think is the root of Catholism
  2. Salvation outside the Church (do catholic’s believe non catholic can not go to heaven)
  3. Mary
  4. The order of Mass (their lost outside the readings)
  5. the Eucharist as the new covenant
  6. Sacraments (outside of marriage and baptism)
  7. How many people and statues are Catholics praying to?
  8. Presumption in various forms
 
1.) Universal authority/Rome primacy as shown by ECF’s or lack thereof…
2.) Scriptural basis for Papacy or lack thereof…
3.) Mariology or Marianity (all things Mary)
4.) Faith vs Faith/works
5.) Interpretation of scripture
6.) Idols/Icons
7.) Scripture vs magesterium
8.) Rapture vs 2nd coming
9.) Anything OT
10.) Moral judgements
 
It depends on my location. You get different stuff from different groups.

  2. Universalism/Hell
  3. “works” salvation
  4. scripture alone
  5. Why Bother?
  6. Marian issues
  7. all those stupid rules (like contraception, remarriage)
  8. scandal (historical events, bad popes, sexual abuse, etc)
uh, I’m a little stuck here

  8. Heaven: static or evolutionary?
  9. God: separate or Only?
  10. Faith-Alone, or Faith-and-Obedience?
