Fred is a pretty well known wacko around these parts. Of course, Kansas also has its own antipope, residing in Delia, KS, who was elected in a conclave consisting mostly of his family members.

The picture of the “Pope” in his living room, er, “Apostolic Palace” sure seems to leave alot to be desired. I think instead on calling him “Pope”, he shall now be known as Poop Michael.

When Pope John Paul II died a co-worker who commutes from Topeka to KC told me that Fred Phelps had signs in front of his church that the Pope is burning in hell. I wanted to drive to Topeka myself with my own signs but the people in Topeka do not give him any attention, including the media. I guess that’s how they deal with him.

I have seen his pickets against homosexuals. Although the homosexual lifestyle is wrong, hate is wrong also.
 
Phelp’s group hit us here in Boise. They were interested in us because we had a Ten Commandments monument in a state park. The group petitioned to get a God-hates-gays (using other terms of course) monument in the same park based on free-speech laws. We had to pull the monument out and put it on a private church property to keep this jerk and his flock away. They picketed some of our parishes and other places around town, though I am not sure why they chose the ones they did. We had people from all faiths with giant fabric angel wings protecting everyone who walked by the picketers.:angel1:

how much do you guys think an italian mafioso charges to “scared” this guys, maybe one will give us a discount. BUONA CERA, BUONA CERA, this is a proposition you cant refuse.
 
This whack job picketed churches in my home town of Joplin, Mo a few months ago. 2-3 people at a few churches, holding signs and yelling hateful things at parishoners as they arrived on Sunday AM. The picketed a Catholic and one Baptist Church that I remember - they were more of a joke and nuiscence than anything. Very sad, angry people.
 
If 90% of his parishoners are from his family, who do they date? Their idea of the “bar scene” is hitting on their cousins at family reunions. They flirt by pulling out a chart of their family tree and showing how close on the branches they are. Geesh!

One of our local evangelical radio hosts had this character on his show as a guest. This host basically told the “Reverend” Phelps that he never wanted to see him in our city again. And this host isn’t known as a lover of Roman Catholicism. Basically, no matter where you go and who you ask, outside of his group of followers, he’s a nut.

If I am not mistaken, is there not some verse in the Bible that specifically says not to call someone stupid, dumb, or a moron. Something to the effect. Anybody able to find it?

Mattthew 5:22 (NIV):

22But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to his brother, ‘Raca,’ is answerable to the Sanhedrin. But anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell.

For reference sake, the footnotes of my Bible indicate that ‘Raca’ was an Aramaic term that was used to express contempt.
