while we do not have the multiple latin options, we discussed a similar situation just today here
our home parish has been a part of our life since shortly after my wife joined the Church over 20 years ago and we are active, and they have very many good activities amd ministries by some very solid Catholic people
we have visited occasionally another local parish and find the Mass is just that little bit better as far as reverence, but far more “teaching” during the homily, much more orthodox Catholic references and guidance
while this does nothing to help your dilemna, sorry, I wanted to throw it out there because we are considering dual registrations to support both parishes, at least until we decide if we want to totally switch or not…our fear is that if we switch, come June the Bishop will make a switch of pastors and we will need to look again
I am interested in hearing if anyone has dual registrations and if they have had any success with this or if one is better off making a decision and sticking with it
Don’t you just hate that when a good priest is transferred?
We have belonged to one parish since 1992. We were happy there, but by chance ended up at another parish one day in 2004.
Ultimately it’s where we ended up attending Mass all the time. I learned so much from that priest. He’s the best confessor I ever had. He has developed in me a desire to grow in holiness. I got involved in parish activities, very involved. I grew to know and love the people there.
But we never changed membership. We did, however, financially support both. The priest at the first church is very aware of where we go and was fine with it. (Since we belonged to the first one, it’s where my daughter was confirmed, so we did keep communications open.) The second priest outright said that non-members are welcome to anything the parish offered.
But the first priest recently announced his retirement. So we decided to go ahead and join the second parish, which has a waiting list. We had been attending there for seven years, and I think I kind of shocked the priest when I said we were ready to be on the waiting list.
A few weeks later the Bishop announced he was transferring the second priest.
sigh
We’re staying at the second parish, despite some changes there that make me rather sad. The people have become family. So we stay.
But the point is, you don’t have to officially have dual parishes. Go where you want. Support the parish you’re registered at and, if you go to another one regularly, support it as well as you can, too.
