I am under a tornado watch here in Kansas. Apparently we have the conditions to make the “perfect” super cell. I am in Mortal Sin and I’m afraid that if I die I won’t go to heaven. I think I’m in perfect contrition, but I’m not sure. I’m sorry that my sins offend Jesus, but I think I should feel more than what I do now. Any help?

Rosary! Rosary! Rosary! Call your pastor, try and get him to hear your confession.

We get Tornado watches all the time, in fact we had one couple days ago, it didn’t even rain. Preyer is important, but also preparing and educating your self on what to do incase of severe weather.

A tornado watch is just letting you know that you need to be on the lookout that the conditions are there for a potential tornado. If it was a warning that would mean that they have sighted one. Just make sure to prepare yourself for the weather. If there is a chance to get to confession, then take that opportunity.

That would be a nice idea, except we don’t have a local Priest. The closest Priest is twenty five miles away. Unfortunate, but true.

I’m in Kansas, so I know they happen all the time, and I was actually hit by the Greensburg tornado on May fourth, 2007 (Look it up. It was almost two miles wide with wind over three hundred miles per hour). But they said to take cover because we are in the prime spot for massive super cells, possibly producing tons of dangerous tornadoes.

Then take the first half of my advice. Rosary, rosary, rosary. Have complete faith in Our Lady’s intercession.

I understand where you are and the severity of the storms there as we live in the midwest and sat in our basement 2 nights ago for 45 mins in a Tornado warning. My local town was hit by a tornado on Good Friday that missed us in the Church by a few miles.

Just be careful. Pray the Divine Mercy. Trust in God.

I’m from Tuscaloosa, AL, so I know what can happen on days like today. You are under a “Particularly Dangerous Situation” Tornado Watch, meaning that there’s a 45% chance of a tornado within 50 miles of your area. Stay near several sources of information. Have your cell phone on you at all times. Make sure you have a car charger in case you lose power for days. Get a weather radio with a battery backup. If you lose power, radio, and phone service, texting on your phone can sometimes work. The amount of data in texts is so small that even if a cell tower is damaged, you might be able to get a message out. Streaming video and phone internet was critical for information during our tornado. If you have a basement, storm shelter, or safe room, seek shelter there. If not, seek shelter in an interior room or closet, away from windows, on the lowest floor of your house. Bathtubs work great. If you have one, put on a bike, baseball, or football helmet. Move important documents to your safe area.

Now, with all of that said, there is NO REASON TO PANIC. Most likely things will be just fine. But, you should have a plan EXACTLY in place for what you’ll do if a tornado warning DOES sound. You may not have a lot of time.

An Act of Perfect Contrition is always a good thing to have memorized! 👍

Sorry, I just saw that you’re from Greensburg, Kansas. I’m probably not telling you anything you don’t already know, after your huge EF5 of a few years ago.

Good advice! Hope all is well there in AL. I am near areas in STL that experienced a tornado on Good Friday.

Perfect Act of Contrition, Divine Mercy Chaplet and as others have suggested, the Rosary. Also meditate on Jesus’s mercy in the Scriptures. Peace, friend. I’m in the red zone too. Let’s all pray for one another.👍

Hi Knight!
I had a great belly laugh when I saw your quote from Fr. Corapi! He is great!
Having listened to him so many times, I think that he would say to you, make as perfect an act of contrition as you can, with the firm intent of getting to confession as soon as you can. Then commend yourself to your mom, the Queen of Heaven and Earth, she who has been known to avert all types of disasters. And remember, Jesus and Mary never scorn the prayers and petitions of those who trust in them. TRUST, TRUST, TRUST! Isn’t that what Fr. Corapi would say?

As others mentioned, make sure you go to confession as soon as the danger is over, but take both temporal and spiritual preparation in case of tornado.

Temporal:

Find a safe place to evacuate to. Make sure you have first aid and other needed supplies to support yourself in case there are no provisions—for example, stores for food, hospitals/clinics, etc. This is always important, but especially important since you, according to your statement, are in mortal sin and the danger that could possibly come after this life is so great.

Spiritual:

Make a very good act of contrition. If you don’t have any written prayers, make one up----and sincerely mean it, including getting to a confessor as soon as the danger is over. Ask the intercession of the Blessed Mother of God, Mary. Trust in God’s mercy and be willing to accept what His final judgment is. For it is His will that none shall perish but shall come to repentance, and to life everlasting. Pray that the danger will come to pass. I reckon that everyone in your area, or elsewhere----if everyone prays that the danger may come to pass, the Lord may be merciful—but whatever the case, we must lovingly accept what He permits. I’ll start:

Hail Mary full of grace!
The Lord is with you.
Blessed are you among women,
And blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, mother of God,
Pray for us sinners,
Now,
And at the hour of our death. Amen.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost,
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Lord, save your people. And bless your inheritance.

Echoing the others’ suggestions: make an act of perfect contrition (with intent to have your confession heard as soon as possible), pray the Rosary, pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet, pray the St. Michael prayer, take your radio, flashlight, and any supplies you may have to your basement/storm shelter/whatever is your designated “safe spot”. Above all, trust in God. I will be praying that the Hand of God will avert disaster and the Virgin Mary will keep you safe under her mantle. My prayers also go out to those who are in the “hot zone” and in danger of possibly seeing a tornado tonight, as well as the people who have already lost homes, businesses, possessions, and loved ones from the outbreaks that have been occurring across the South and Midwest.

Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on them.
Blessed Virgin Mary, pray for them.
St. Michael the archangel, pray for them.

I agree with Little Dove. Make your confession to Christ now with a serious intent of going to confession this coming weekend ( and follow through with it!) Pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet, which might be easier to say when you are under stress. and ask Mary to pray for you also. The Jesus prayer would also be an easy prayer to repeat under stress, “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me, a sinner” and “Jesus I trust in You”.

I"ll be praying for you all.

I can’t help but feel ATeutonicKnight that you fear Gods Justice to the point of doubting His Mercy. When that happens its best to recollect yourself and pray to God to trust in Him.

“I have opened my Heart as a living fountain of mercy. Let all souls draw life from it. Let them approach this sea of mercy with great trust. Sinners will attain justification, and the just will be confirmed in good. Whoever places his trust in My mercy will be filled with My divine peace at the hour of death.” --from Jesus to Saint Faustina

Oh no, it was great advice. We actually have a semi-underground shelter in the backyard.

And yes, the Act of Contrition is a perfect thing to memorize. 😛

I’m not sure if that’s the case. I’m just in Mortal Sin and I’m worried whether I’ll be forgiven is all. I’m trying to trust in God, but sometimes it’s hard to not think about where you’ll be going when you die.
