Total consecration to Mary?

So according to my aunt, after listening to a Priest’s homily earlier, he mentioned that according to St. Louis De Montfort (in his book The Secrets of Mary), once we totally consecrate ourselves to Mary we cannot pray or say devotions to other Saints without consulting her permission because we belong exclusively to Mother Mary. So in a way it’s like doing everything with Mary, if we say the ‘Our Father’ it’s offered up with Mary, if we say the St. Bridget’s prayers, it’s offered up with Mary and so forth.

I mean it’s good to be totally consecrated to Mary but to seek her permission before saying a devotion to other Saints? Why do we have to?

St. Louis didn’t speak about seeking Mary’s permission but about giving her the right to dispose of our prayers and works and graces in the way that she sees fit. Total consecration is about making a total gift of all our interior and exterior goods.

She then takes what I have and infuses it with graces and then presents it to God. The reason for this is that she has a special role in our sanctification, and this is rooted in her spiritual motherhood and in her being the spouse of the Holy Spirit. By relying on her, we are made ever more presentable to God, who in turn draws us ever closer to Himself.

St. Louis’s teachings are very beautiful and teach a way of spiritual childhood toward our Blessed Mother.

It is not about legalistic mental rules.

It is the way to Jesus through her.

It is very precious, and has helped save my life.

I have heard others say the same thing about needing Mary’s permission. Even if such permission were necessary, I think it is safe to assume that it is always granted. The saints are not in competition with each other, and Mary especially is not jealous or in competition with anyone. She is the loving mother of all of us. Would a mother make you ask permission before talking to your brother or sister? And that is all we are doing when we have a devotion to a saint: we are talking to them like a dear sister or brother or asking their help.
