Scout I replied to you but it didn’t go through but here is what this is all about. My husband and I made the consecration years ago. What we experienced and we have seen it in others is that it completely changes your life. Some see this more than others. My husband suggested it to a young husband and father years ago and today he credits the consecration to changing everything in his life he was doing. The idea is that you give to Our Blessed Mother your whole life, your joys, your sufferings, everything for her to dispose of as she likes. Our Lord has made Mary the Mediatrix of all graces. She takes what you give her and presents it to her Son all wrapped up in a neat little package. The example was given that she takes something like a poorly wrapped present that you might give Jesus and rewraps it in a special way with a mother’s touch. Anything from His mother this Son cannot turn down and so He accepts the things that are so mundane that we give her readily. Mary it has been said is the quickest way to Jesus. It has been likened to trying to cross a raging stream and you can wade and fight the current to get to the other side–going it alone or on your own or you can go upstream a ways and take the bridge. Mary is the bridge. You say to Mary, “I am all yours and all that I have is yours” even your spiritual goods. St. Louis Marie de Montfort is a great saint for our times because he was treated very poorly by the haughty clergy of France during his time. I believe the Jansenist heresy was raging and many of the clergy liked their fine positions and worldly lifestyle and de Montfort was the exact opposite of that. He had been devoted to Mary since his youth when no statues could even be allowed in public in France. He wrote a wonderful little book among others when he was in the poorest part of the city in Paris I believe in a little hole of a place that he lived abandoned by almost every priest. He could not even find a spiritual director. This is when almost in complete ecstasy he wrote “The Love of Eternal Wisdom” He mostly was seen in tattered cassocks because he kept giving any new ones away to the poor. Mostly he felt like a failure and yet he knew he had to stand up against the worldly clergy and the Jansenists. The effects of the consecration are hard to explain but one thing is for certain the great Mother of God you know is always there on your side to lead you to her Son. De Montfort speaks of those consecrated to Mary as the greatest of apostles in the latter times. I think we need these today. Sometimes you are not ready for the changes. We, my husband and I completely lost everything because we were living a life of luxury and Mary brought us to a greater spirituality and to her Son. Our whole prayer life changed and we began to look at things from a more sprittual importance instead of a worldly one. She gradually helped us detach ourselves from things of the world. Our marriage was already great but she brought us together so much more spiritually. She makes any suffering you go through easy to bear, I know because I lost my husband this year and you wouldn’t believe how she has taken care of me. So the thing is you go to Jesus through Mary and that makes all the difference in the world.
This concept right here is what has drawn me to this devotion. I needed to ask myself if I could trust someone else completely with all of my being. Trusting God makes sense to me. But can I trust God’s creation?
The book has had a similar impact on me. I was originally thinking of doing the consecration on the feast of the Immaculate Conception on December 8th. But I feel I am being called to do the consecration sooner on the feast of the Presentation of Mary on November 21st.
