Oh, absolutely, Kathrin. I did pray for him that night, and since. I am glad it turned out that he didn’t do it out of “total disrespect”, even if that was what I thought when it happened. My first impression was that he was some sort of anti-religious person. Not only was he naked, but I thought he was covered in tattoos too, but when he came closer I could see he had mud smeared over his body (I have poor eyesight, and was grateful for it at that moment.) His hair seemed to be in a kind of rastafarian hairdo (he was Caucasian) which gave the impression of a sort of hippie, but again, it turned out that it was just because he had not been grooming himself. Altogether, it is clear that he was mentally ill, and I have been including him especially in my prayers (as a sometime sufferer of depression, praying for the mentally ill is one of my dearest intentions.) Luckily, we have universal health care here, so he’s getting the help he needs.
In the moment, tho’, it gave me and many of the other ladies present quite a fright. I was kind of shocky for quite a while afterwards (I couldn’t talk much to my parish priest afterwards, because my teeth were chattering as if I was in the middle of a snowstorm.) I’m just glad it didn’t happen 15 minutes earlier, as then there would have been several children present, including at least 3 girl ministrants.
