That’s where I am at now. I leave it all to God and Jesus to handle.

"Most people would rather control their own destinies rather than turn the reins of their life over to God the Father for Him to fully handle." I did that my entire life. I had to control where and what I would do. If not me no one else was going to do it. Maybe it was the way I was raised. Stand on your own two feet, only you could do things, no one is going to them for you. But I never asked God to help let alone do it all for me.

"As a result, they will never find what their true divine destinies would have been in the Lord in this lifetime. There are many Christians who are now living defeated and broken lives as a result of broken dreams – all because they were trying to do it all on their own without any of God’s help, guidance, or power to get them there." That’s me. Everything I have ever done in my life failed, miserably. I couldn’t understand why. I tried to do everything according to what you were supposed to do in society and even live by the golden rule. Still failure plagued me every step of the way. I never asked for God’s help, guidance or power to show me the way.

”Trust in the Lord in all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding…”
How does that equate with the concepts of perseverence needed to get through life, and daring to dream. Especially when you give God control. How can one do both, dream and follow him? Should one do both? In what way?

I still have a problem with total surrender and feel like I will end up doing absolutely nothing while I wait for God to show or act in my life. Or maybe God wants me to do nothing.

Ask for the Holy Spirit. Allow the Holy Spirit to change your life. Your asking and surrendering have to be sincere. You mean it and come from your heart. Usually you can only do that if you realise you are at fault, sinful and believe that Jesus died for you to save you.

We surrender and then we must surrender again, and again, and again.

Marvelous points you give us.

Some saints have said our whole interior life with God is one of beginning and beginning again.

"My loving Father - I gave you this yesterday but I took it back this morning…giving it back to You now, with love and the smile and thanks of a child, happily Yours. "

Doing nothing waiting for God’s instructions saying that I have given the reins of my life to Jesus,is not the proper thing. Math:22-21 says, render to Caesar what is due to him and render to God what is due God, which means to live in this world you have to do what is required to live here.If you are in genuine confusion as to which among some option is to be chosen or done, you can ask God’s help, that’s all.
It is not clear what you mean by saying that everything was a failure.Financial and social failure is nothing if you have the spiritual awakening which you appear to have as seen from your post.Do the things which you feel correct and appropriate and ask for Jesus blessings ,instead of waiting for instructions /advices from him to start.

We all have spheres of control, spheres of influence, and spheres beyond both. We do our best in the first two. But a lot of our suffering is resisting the third. That is where surrender is necessary.

I’m having to do the same a lot lately.
There is too much happening in my life that I can do little or nothing about and I still have to get through the day.

I’ve done that many times, and still failure again and again. I don’t trust any of my instincts anymore. I feel God wants me to just sit and wait. What I feel is correct and appropriate is apparently not God’s perfect will for my life, and praying for blessings to make it so won’t make my will become God’s will.

That’s what I do when I step out and try to discern God’s will for my life and failure occurs again and again. I say “oops that’s not it. I give it to you now God.” But I don’t think God wants me to keep trying to make my will his. He wants total surrender from me. Sit back and wait for his will and stop striving. Can I do that? Can any human? Well when the alternative is constant failure I have absolutely nothing to lose.

It now appears that what you are telling as all failure is not that much failure. It could be that the result may not be as expected by you.If so just lower the passing mark and continue to do so till you can say that it is not a failure since the result is more than I expected.
It is a good thing that you are now inclined to surrender to God.This means you are slowly going to learn about the only purpose of our life here which is to know about God,love and glorify him and to finally join with him in the everlasting life. Always keep this in your mind. You will understand that the so called failure is nothing to be worried about.
