Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Today is the Feast of Saint Pope John Paul II, Oct. 22. His papal motto, “Totus Tuus” (All Yours), was taken from the words of St. Louis de Montfort in that saint’s classic work, True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.. I remember reading in the Pope’s own writings that his reading of De Montfort’s True Devotion was a “turning point” in his life as a young man. Certainly when we reflect on the fruitfulness of St. John Paul II’s life, we can see how powerful an influence Mary was, in drawing him closer to Jesus, and to the Trinity, especially in his sufferings.

I often quote St. John Paul II’s words to the Servant of God Frank Duff, (who founded the Legion of Mary in 1921). I’ve not been able to find a date when he said this; it may have been at the Second Vatican Council, since they were both present or at another time, but St. John Paul II told the holy lay man, Frank Duff:
Remember, Victory will come through Mary.
Perhaps it was said after the assassination attempt on the Pope’s life had failed, and St. John Paul II, had said Mary’s hand had “guided the bullet” so that it was not fatal. At any rate, his words are good for all of us to remember.

Happy, Holy Feast Day!

Happy Feast Day of Pope Saint John Paul II to you as well!

Dear liturgy96, Luigi Daniele, Richard White, and christofirst,

Thank you all for your replies and prayers. What "special"l persons Pope St. John Paul II and all our Saints are; what gifts each one is to the Church and to the world! By God’s Grace, may we each become the unique saints we are called to be also through Mary. 🙂
