My family loved it.
Did we think it was “possible?” No, but it had a message every week. The same way “Highway to Heaven” did. Some people found both shows to be too saccharine, but it’s content was always family friendly.
I never found either show to be anything but uplifting.

I liked it a lot. only objection is great majority of shows went out of their way to make the man seem kinda foolish and the woman wise. i am sure. this was the demographic they aimed at

The show came at an important time for us.
We had become guardians of a young girl (8) who came from a highly toxic environment of abuse and drugs.
She had never heard of God, angels, Mother Mary…
We made that time for snuggle time, and watched the show together.
It was her introduction to faith and an opportunity to bond.
I’m grateful for it.

Did you know that the producer of Touched by an Angel, Brian Bird, is a strong and vocal Christian television and movie writer and producer? Along with Michael Landon Jr., he has produced numerous Christian movies and TV shows. He’s made it his goal to bring morality back to the media by producing television and movies that are clean, wholesome, and can be enjoyed by the entire family. My favorite of his television shows is When Calls the Heart, a family Christian western drama set in the early 1900s.

I was a teenager when the show was on, and I did find it a little sappy sometimes. So I didn’t watch every episode. However, I do remember one of the first episodes actually managed to both (1) make us sympathize with the “other woman” having an affair with a married man AND (2) make it very clear that adultery is wrong. The woman repents at the end after actually being forgiven by the man’s wife.
There was also a storyline about a former prostitute married to a politician, who is tempted to kill herself rather than sink his political career when her past is in danger of being revealed. Again, makes the woman very sympathetic but also does NOT make light of prostitution, either.
I also recall being impressed with the Angel of Death being depicted as a really warm, compassionate man, and the idea that death was NOT considered a tragic ending.
I also recall an interesting story arc about a fake televangelist trying to profit from a real miracle, by taking hold of an angel feather and tries to use “the Power of the Feather” to, well, feather his nest with donations. But he’s not just a crook, he actually used to be a believer until personal experiences made him sour and cynical about religion.
From “grown-up” eyes I think the show was a little light when it came to actual theology (similar to the Christianity found in Seventh Heaven; pretty strong when it came to belief in God but rather fuzzy otherwise).
For example, while I liked the storyline of the redemption of Kathleen the fallen angel, from what I understand now, fallen angels, unlike humans, CAN’T be redeemed.

I hate it. I watch it and my kids think it’s hilarious that daddy is sobbing on the couch in a little ball crying “God does love you little tommy.”
Then they want to know why dad has an Irish accent all of the sudden.
