Our late pastor spent his last few months of life teaching us the new translation. We started in September with the Mass cards. On the first Sunday in Advent, we were so ready. In early February, three weeks before he died, he taught us to sing Prolux’s Gloria Simplex. (It was the Sunday that all the deacons were on retreat. He told the part time assistant pastor to stay home. We were totally his for one last Sunday. He mustered every last ounce of energy to say the Saturday Anticipated and all four Sunday Masses. It was the last Sunday he said Mass for us. That was his farewell gift to us…teaching us to sing the Gloria in the new translation.)
When our new pastor took over in May, he complemented us on how well we had the new translation down, complemented us on how we sung the Gloria and said “someone taught you well.” There wasn’t a dry eye in the Church.
