What is wrong with you people?
Telling the boy to break up with her over her religion?
You’re all nuts. :tsktsk:
Popelover, you stay true to your Church. Tell her you find her views on religion to be wrong. But, for the love of God, don’t break up with her over that!
I married a (non-practicing)Methodist girl. We went to classes. We got permission to marry. She is now in her 8th year as a Catholic Convert & we have 3 kids being raised in the Roman Catholic Church & attending Catholic School.

Lighten up, folks!

I know lots of Catholics that have married Protestants. I don’t understand why it would be more difficult to someone who is closer to my beliefs and believes in all the sacraments.

And doesn’t the Pope say we should respect people of other religions?
It’s the very closeness of the beliefs that will wreck the relationship.

-below taken from wiki-

The uncanny valley is a hypothesis in the field of robotics[1] and 3D computer animation,[2][3] which holds that when human replicas look and act almost, but not perfectly, like actual human beings, it causes a response of revulsion among human observers. The “valley” refers to the dip in a graph of the comfort level of humans as a function of a robot’s human likeness

What you two will face is the religious version of the “uncanny valley.” A relationship won’t survive it without one of you changing your beliefs.

I agree. PopeLover, if this woman really loves you, she will accept what you believe.

There is a big difference. A Lutheran for instance, does not profess to be Catholic. She professes to be Catholic but believes and states what is not Catholic. Perhaps you can discuss and tell her the truth. If she changes her sedevacantist views, you have a potential wife. No one can tell you who to date or marry but if you to marry with her still having those views, your children are going to be pulled two ways.

Does she know you disagree and if so, why would she want to marry you at all?

But Catholics can marry Protestants, right? I know it’s not ideal, but I have fallen for the girl.
How do you know you have not “fallen” for her so that you can pray for her? How do you know God has not given you this gift so that you can wait for her to join you in faith?
I looked up this SSPX when doing research on what she said and asked her if she was involved with them and she said no. She said they were schismatic and she preferred the SSPV but that there were no nearby chapels for her to attend.

But, again…if she was a Lutheran…how would this be different?

I know not ideal, but Saint Paul said we could marry non-Christians.
Actually, St. Paul said the opposite:

2 Cor 6:14 Do not be mismated with unbelievesr…

What St. Paul said was that, should one become a Christian, and their spouse did not want them in the marriage anymore because of it, then it was ok to separate. He discouraged anyone to marry, especially outside the faith.

1 Cor 7:12-16

12 To the rest I say, not the Lord, that if any brother has a wife who is an unbeliever, and she consents to live with him, he should not divorce her. 13 If any woman has a husband who is an unbeliever, and he consents to live with her, she should not divorce him. 14 For the unbelieving husband is consecrated through his wife, and the unbelieving wife is consecrated through her husband. Otherwise, your children would be unclean, but as it is they are holy. 15 But if the unbelieving partner desires to separate, let it be so; in such a case the brother or sister is not bound. For God has called us to peace. 16 Wife, how do you know whether you will save your husband? Husband, how do you know whether you will save your wife?

The purpose of the marriage is to bring the spouses, and the children, to the fullness of Christ for eternity. The spiritual aspect of the relationship is the most important. If you enter into the marriage with the current state of affairs, you will be unequally yoked.

Re: Principal Differences Between the SSPX and SSPV?
The SSPV reject vatican II (stpiusvchapel.org/newcomers.html) in entirety. By their actions, they also reject Vatican I.
the consistently and strongly imply that they believe HH John XXIII was not valid matter due to his being a “modernist,” citing that he admits he was suspected of modernism prior to his election.
(stpiusvchapel.org/flash_p…ss_changes.swf)
They imply that conciliarity is heresy. (www.sspv.net, and above articles).
The SSPV.net website is lacking in any depth; the real meat is at stpiusvchapel.org/articles.html

My friend; “can’t” and not a graet idea are not the same:)

YOU will be obligated to raise any kids within the CC.

Having been married for 45 [and counting]😃 I can share that the type of love changes over time. It is HIGHLY likely that she will insist of making her views know to the kids too; NOT a good idea.

But it’s your call. You MAY and I think, should discuss this with a Catholic Priest while there is time to do so.

God’s continued Blessings my friend!

The Sedevacantists are known as " Radical Traditionalists “catholics” ". They are basicully High Protestants or Protestants in Catholic Clothing as I put it 😉

I use to be Sedevacantist, and I’m glad I left them because they are very uncharitable and disrespectful to original Catholic Bishops. They Claim the Catholic Church no longer exists. But, Matthew 16:18-19 Jesus mentions the Gates of Hell will not prevail against the Church. Was Jesus lieing? Ofcorse not! What I suggest is giving her a book from Patrick Madrid called " More Catholic than the Pope ".

God Bless,
BVMFatima
I was taught the Catholic Faith by and baptized by a Sedevacantist Priest. After 10 years as a Sedevacantist, I left and returned to the Church. The Sedevacantists I knew were sincere people trying to save their souls in a world in which the Holy Catholic Faith has be hijacked by Modernists. It seems to me that Sedevacantists are the one group that uncharitableness towards is allowed.

Sadly shes better than the alternative. That is women who really don’t believe in God or so called catholics who believe in abortion and contraception. Feminism has been a poison for modern women, but guys are as much to blame for being girl-men and wanting to please women for the sake of “getting sum”

Pray for her and be her friend and be an example for her. Who knows she might change, but don’t hold your breath.

I know it’s dangerous.

But she is the first woman that I have thought “I want her to be my wife and mother of children.”

I want to know about what the Church says. Lutherans basically think they know better than the Pope too, right?

So she is not considered a Catholic then? Would the Church marry us?
As I said if there were more faithful Catholic women in this country I would say cut your losses with this girl and seek elsewhere, but sadly many women in the Church just full of feminism with feelings of superiority. Give thanks to the baby boomers they really screwed us younger folks bad.

Agreed! Although I don’t condone there beliefs I see some of the hypocrys on this site and in the Church. We are told to be charitable to protestants, atheist and other religions, but when it comes to our fallen brothers who seem to have a deep love for the same church, well it’s open season on them.

Hello,

I hope this topic doesn’t violate rules, but I really could use your guys help.

I recently met the most amazing girl. She is perfect. Good Catholic woman I thought.

And then 2 week ago she sat me down and told me she had something to tell me that might shock me.

She told me that she thought all Popes since Pius XII were false popes, and that the Ordinary Form of the mass was invalid.

Crazy stuff…

So…

What does this mean for me from a Catholic perspective?

Is she Catholic? Would I be able to marry her? I would think so…since you can marry non-Christians, right?

I would think I could attend her chapel but they wouldn’t count toward the Sunday Obligation. Basically like attending a Protestant Church.

What other problems would I be facing?
I don’t know about this. Consult your pastor. What you can do is the less important question here; you should be concerned about what you ought to do. Suppose you father children with her and then die. Would you trust her to raise them in Christ’s Church? If the answer is no…

St Pius X Society is not in schism, nor are they sedevacantist, although their status is irregular so they are not in full communion, and they do have some pretty extreme views about both Vatican II and the Pauline Mass.

If this girl says she is SSPX then she goes well beyond even what the Society leadership teaches in what she professes.
Yes, there is a lengthy thread about SSPX here and the question of schism is off the table, as they are currently not in schism. In fact one can be disciplined for saying so here, as it is prejudicial. The views of the young lady in question are clearly not in line with SSPX teachings, much less the Magisterium, if she professes sedevacantism- the SSPX has frequently made it clear that they are not sedavacantist.

I agree with the advice about seeing the priest at the FSSP chapel. since the OP really cares for this girl he can try to help her out of her error, rather than simply dump her, as some here have suggested. Scott Hahn’s anecdote about how he achieved far more success in helping his wife convert by “turning down the apologetics and turning up the romance” might be a good guideline. The story is found in “Ordinary Work, Extraordinary Grace: My Spiritual Journey in Opus Dei.”

Like all of the Sacraments, marriage must bring us closer to God and make us better Catholics. When dating somebody, I would always ask the question: will this lady, the way she is today, push me to become a better Catholic or will she make me choose between her and my faith?

While the Church does allow inter-faith marriages with protestants, the Church views it as being a sad occaison and certainly not something to be encouraged or advised in any situation.

Thank you.

What is wrong with feminism? It is not about superiority but about equality.

But the problem with modern feminism is that it wants to make women just like men. Think of it. Feminists want contraception only because they feel that men were able to have sex without consequences while women had out of wedlock children. So rather than try and encourage men and women to be chaste, they simply wanted a pill so they could be like men and do what they wish. To me that is what is wrong with feminism. It fails to recognize that men and women are different and have different strengths and weaknesses.

He is free to heed or to ignore the advice of the other posters here.

I’m glad it worked out for you and your wife. However it can easily go the other way. I personally know once faithful Catholics who have fallen away because of a non-Catholic spouse.

I would advise caution in his case. He should pray for guidance in this case from a priest or a spiritual director, if he has one.

From what I’ve experienced from feminism, it does not want to make women just like men. Feminism, rather, is about choice; which is to give women the right to choose whether they wish to be a working woman or a housewife/mother. Previously, they really only had one choice. Feminism acknowledges that men and women have different strengths and weaknesses (which is obvious), but it wants to make women thought of as equals to men, which is still be combated by rampant sexism. I’m sure there are radical feminists (I’ve experienced a few myself that say outlandish things in the name of “equality”, and even then those radical opinions are usually disregarded by the general feminist community) who wish to make women superior, but the main goal of feminism to make women equal, not birth control (at least from what I have encountered).

Just my :twocents:, take it as you wish.

As for the OP’s situation, I would agree with this:

He should definitely err on the side of caution, and talk to his priest/spiritual director. They would most likely know the best in this case.

The problem here is not feminism – but that men – for far to long have been “taught” – that they “do as they wish” – “sow their wild oats”. That they are to “weak” and can’t control themselves.

You’re sure that it’s just women who want contraception? It also works out for the men who want consequence free sex.

I agree though that chastity is a virtue that should be encouraged for everyone.
