I would like to know if there are any professional societies/groups that focus on traditional and sacred architecture from a catholic world view. I am currently an Intern Architect with a modernist/contemporary training, working on very practical building types and construction types. I would like to be able to learn more about traditional building design theories, construction types and methods. I have discovered INTBAU and the New Liturgical Movement’s websites, but I would to see if there are any others I am missing.

Essentially, if there is a traditional/religious equivalent of the AIA, if someone could point me towards that.

Also, if any practicing architect or artist could give their advice of a book(s) that I could read as an Introduction to traditional art and architecture, not only the theory but also the actual craft of drawing/designing. All of my drafting/rendering books are geared for modern art and architecture.

Thank you for your help!

I’m sure that you’re looking for something much more technical and academia-related than this book, but this does have fascinating information on its subject – and some of it is quite technical.

**Great Gothic Cathedrals of France, by Stan Parry
Published by Viking Studio, copyright 1995. **

I bought mine from either Amazon or Ebay - can’t remember.

(After having seen some of the magnificent Cathedrals in England and France, I bought the book and made a five-week pilgrimage (of sorts) to see as many in France as I could. The book was a great help – the trip was fabulous. I have been unable to find or contact Mr. Parry as I wanted to use some of his info in articles I wrote. I hope this can help you a bit.)
