Traditional Catholic Books and Websites?

Those on here paraphrasing these various statements are doing so misleadingly. The PCED has stated officially that the SSPX has not been declared as a society to be in formal schism, but this does not mean that they are not schismatic. The group’s very existence has been disobedient from the beginning, and the Roman clergy cited on the subject have said that attending SSPX chapels puts one in danger of cultivating “schismatic tendencies.” Enough said.

Let’s not split hairs here - where Peter is, there is the Church. Roma locuta est. Disobedience to the papacy in any matter of faith and morals has never been acceptable, and to persist in excusing such behavior is really beyond the pale.
We are getting off topic a little. This matter is already being discussed in another forum so we should discuss it there. This is the “Is it okay to attend SSPX daily Mass and receive communion?” forum

Thanks - you are right, Eve. I didn’t see your reply to my post until after I put up my second one, since I was so busily writing while yours went up. I am done talking about SSPX at this point anyhow (what’s the use of saying anything more), so will just leave off on this thread. I also fear that it may lapse into uncharitability, and that would be no good… I stand by the arguments I have made regarding the papacy and obedience, but ask all of you to forgive me for any excessive vehemence in my words. Please pray for me as I will for you.

Books can be evaluated on their own terms, yes. Much of what they produce is good old fashioned Catholic stuff, yes. But some of it is also stuff advocating the Society’s at least-until-recently schismatic positions. The leadership of the SSPX is no longer formally excommunicated as they had been for the past twenty years, true. But people who participate in a culture of disobedience to the papacy and persist in this obstinacy, no matter what “high level clergy in Rome” might say (whose personal opinions, whatever they might be on the subject, are pretty irrelevant to any such discussion), are acting outside the Church.
I support you opinions on Angelus Press. I will have nothing to do with the SSPX or works of Marcel Lefebvre. Even though the excommunications have been lifted, doesn’t mean that things are hunky dory with the SSPX and the Vatican. I understand the need for both TLM and Novus Ordo.

What are some good traditional Catholic books and websites that you all would recommend? I feel more drawn to Traditional Catholicism (or maybe just correctly practiced Catholicism may be more accurate 🙂 I don’t mind the Novus Ordo when it is done correctly, as I’ve been attending daily Mass periodically at two great churches in DC (Cathedral of Saint Matthew the Apostle and the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception)). The National Shrine has a nice bookstore, and there is also the Catholic Information Center (run by Opus Dei) in downtown DC, so I’m looking to buy a book or two that goes over Traditional Catholicism, beliefs, practice, etc. I already have the Catechism and a New Saint Joseph’s Prayer Book (not really traditional I assume).

Any help would be great!
tan books is good as well as baronius press. I bought my Douay-Rheims from Baronius Press. I would stay away from sites like fisheaters.com, mostholyfamilymonastery.com and popeinred.com

Eve, no offense to you personally, but I would warn CFers against Tradition in Action. There’s more criticism of the pope on there, and more schismatic tendencies. There’s at least some good information I’ve seen there, but it’s spoiled by the angry criticism of legitimate Church authority.
I would have to agree with that as well

Why is FishEaters included in there?

There is nothing wrong with that site.

We’ve had conversations on this before.

I have no relation to the owner of FE, but to include them in the same category as MHFM and PIR is ridiculous and insulting.

Edit:
Also, FE is NOT sede, unlike MHFM and PIR (If I understand their positions properly).

I am not saying that fisheaters is sedavaticantist, because they are not. There open criticism of Vatican II is not licit and therefore I encourage everyone to stay away from Fisheaters.com

They (fisheaters) have not the right to openly criticize Vatican II or its teachings

Hi, I can’t believe I’m agreeing with Tobinatorstark:) (just kidding T) but I am highly suspicious of fisheaters.
They link to an Islamic website that declares that Jesus was on par with Muhammad…

Anyways, I’ve asked them to remove the link and they have not. I hope they will someday.

:(fisheaters

Which link is that?..

it isn’t licit. They haven’t been granted permission to do so. The Pope is the only person to grant anyone or any group for open criticism to help properly implement Vatican II. As Catholics we must accept Vatican II and its teachings. I even went as far as to ask this question to Fr. Mitch Pacwa. Why should someone be allowed to openly criticize Vatican II?? First off the owners of fisheaters are laity. You think that the Pope is going to grant some lay person to criticize something they weren’t even a part of or may haven’t lived before Vatican II?? Openly criticizing the Council shows poor judgment on the person’s part not the church. Who are we to judge the teachings of the Church, her council and their teachings??? I would really would like to know.

Thank you Lisa. Despite the disagreements we’ve had in the past, we both have the best interest of this forum and the welfare of the social teachings of the church. We don’t want anything to hinder

And you came up with this astonishing idea how?

Who says so? Where has this EVER been written or decreed?

You claim it, now back it up.

Who else should be allowed grant permission of such, if the case may be?? In what way would it be licit to criticize the council?? I haven’t found one case where it is licit to criticize the council. I accept the teachings of the Church and learned not to questioned them. Maybe the people at fisheaters need to learn that as well.

I guess the magisterium doesn’t mean a thing to you then. Do you deliberately deny the magisterium?? I hope not. I would suggest that you read 2663 of the Catechism of the Catholic on the Magisterium for starters. I assume that you recognize the CCC, if not I would suggest that you talk to a Novus Ordo priest for some counsultation
