Traditional Catholic Books and Websites?

Hi,
Wow, how rude.
My objection, which I stated, was that a site with purportedly “traditional” views on the Catholic Church would link to a Islamic site containing heretical articles about our savior Jesus Christ.

It makes no sense. Catholics came BEFORE islam and yet we cannot buy or make a veil to cover our heads except to buy one from a heretical sect?!

You need to calm down and not assume so much.
Ok, I forgive you. I realize people get hot under the collar and I am that way too.
I reported him.

I will do no such thing.

She owes FishEaters an apology for being thick-headed, and not understanding that linking to a website that sells pretty scarves/headdress is not a full and sweeping endorsement of everything that linked website says.
Heck, they DEAL with a linking policy here:
fisheaters.com/contact.html#linking

And, in another page (the “For Catholics” page), they state this:
Posting offsite links above does not imply complete agreement with the sites or their authors.

They deal with this linking issue. Yet Lisa continues to speak against FE as if they are promoting a heresy that Mohammed was on par with Jesus.

Oh, but wait, they MUST ALSO SUPPORT MORMONISM!!!
Because, in their wedding page, they link to this site:
latterdaybride.com/
For good modest wedding dresses.

My statement before stands.
quit harrassing her!!! Your tone and attitude is well disrespectful towards not only her, but me as well.

these aren’t about criticizing the councils, but rather accepting the Magisterium and not questioning the Magisterium. Please explain more in depth your objection. I want to know what was vague for you. Fisheaters have no respect for Vatican II, but the do have respect for the Pope and everything else. I am simply using the CCC to point out the Magisterium. I have yet to see where Vatican II contradicts the Magisterium. If we aren’t to question the Magisterium, why should we be allowed to question the Council? Not everyone agreed with the changes made with the Council of Trent. Just get over your high horse quit putting the Council down.
Where does it state we cannot question the Magisterium? Vatican II said it did not define new dogmas, the goal from the get-go was not to declare dogma, but to pastorally address things.

Harassing? It’s hardly harassing. Harassing would be PMing her, stalking her other posts on the message board, etc, etc. That I have NOT done.

Pointing out that she is wrong, and she is defaming (more or less) good traditional Catholics is not harassment.

no sir, you are wrong.

Hey now, you are being absurdly bullheaded. Lisa is very much for traditional views. She shows no hatred towards traditionalist, nor is she thick-headed. I think you owe her an apology. Once again we can’t openly criticize the council.
Thank you Tobinatorstark:)

There were dogmatic constitutions as well as pastoral addresses. So far in this thread there is only one person that has brought my errors to my attention and he rightfully pointed them out to me. Your criticism is detrimental to Catholics that respect the TLM and Novus Ordo

My criticism is detrimental solely to myself. I do not speak for anyone BUT myself.

A final correction I wish to make – I may have been in error stating that Archbishop Rembert Weakland worked in the Vatican II documents directly – The Wikipedia article on the topic has changed, or I misread it.

A apologize I spoke too quickly on that, should have done the backchecking instead of speaking swiftly on such a matter.

Now it states he worked on implementing it after, as ‘Consultor to the Commission for Implementing the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy of the Second Vatican Council’.

What is actually the case, or both I do not know. It’s Wikipedia. There, that’s said.

I won’t address the errors in Catholic doctrine tobinator is stating, that is for him to research and correct, for the sake of his own soul. I will merely state they are incorrect and people should do the research if they feel tempted to believe otherwise.

nicely said

Notice:

I just deleted the slapfest posts. Do not replace them and stay on topic. This thread has been added to the hot topics email blast, so I would like the thread to show Catholics on their best behavior. Thanks.

sorry mam, I will do my best to stay on topic. With that said. Catholic treasures is another good website.

I am not saying that fisheaters is sedavaticantist, because they are not. There open criticism of Vatican II is not licit and therefore I encourage everyone to stay away from Fisheaters.com
Fisheaters promotes traditional Catholicism, which is to say, a style of Catholicism that existed before the Council. It happens to be **an exact answer **to the OP’s question.

What are some good traditional Catholic books and websites that you all would recommend? I feel more drawn to Traditional Catholicism (or maybe just correctly practiced Catholicism may be more accurate 🙂 I don’t mind the Novus Ordo when it is done correctly, as I’ve been attending daily Mass periodically at two great churches in DC (Cathedral of Saint Matthew the Apostle and the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception)). The National Shrine has a nice bookstore, and there is also the Catholic Information Center (run by Opus Dei) in downtown DC, so I’m looking to buy a book or two that goes over Traditional Catholicism, beliefs, practice, etc. I already have the Catechism and a New Saint Joseph’s Prayer Book (not really traditional I assume).

Any help would be great!
I’d start with This is the Faith ( as already posted ) and read this work online .

Also get a copy of a 1962 Missal, I personally prefer the Angelus press one but there were threads here comparing the various editions in print.

rorate-caeli.blogspot.com/

Excellent source of news (particular relating to traditional Catholics and orders) and relevant older sermons and passages.

hismercy.ca/

Collection of papal encyclicals, classic writings of saints and apologists, and catechisms (located under Ebooks heading). The selection includes the Baltimore Catechism, St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Louis de Montfort, St. Theresa of Avila, etc.

www.fisheaters.com

Contains many great articles on traditional Catholic devotions, explanations and apologetic of the Catholic faith. Covers the whole gamut of traditional Catholic life, such as an explanation of various customs throughout the liturgical year, how to address the clergy, various sacramentals, the TLM, etc.

But the site also openly criticizes the Vatican II council which isn’t licit. This is why I would recommend staying away from this dangerous site. Yes it promotes traditional Catholic views, but it also has some heretical views that is detrimental to Catholic teaching.
