Hello all, I am currently working on an application to display the Roman Breviary, along with a multitude of other Catholic resources, in either English or Latin, all in one convenient application. Please see the screenshot of the Latin version (and keep in mind I don’t know Latin, so critics are welcome). It’s far from complete- the daily part on the top right will display saints, liturgical color, info etc. I am trying to put as much as possible into this, including all kinds of prayers, the Catechism, Order of Mass, Rosary, Mary, Jesus, Saints, etc. I will be offering this for free as a convenience for Catholics, once I find a site to host it. Would anyone be interested in something like this? Thanks!

OOOOOO! Where do I donate!? 🙂

I’ve been scouring the net looking for an iPhone application which has the traditional breviary and/or traditional calendar (something much like the traditional version of Universalis), but to no avail. I’ve had to resort to bookmarking divinumofficium.com and officiumdivinum.org and checking it in my phone internet browser (which is incredibly inconvenient given the text size and times at which I don’t have good signal to access the site).

May God bless you in your efforts!

Just be aware that some of what you want to post may be copyrighted…such as the Catechism and the Order of the Mass. I know people who had to pay out a lot of money for copyright infringement.

As in IT guy, I was curious at first what is meant by Traditional Catholic Software. I thought its something like Google Toolbar on your browser that will automatically alert you when you load a page that has keywords like “altar girls” or “communion in the hand” :D:D

iPieta is the most awesome Catholic iPhone app available!

If you go to ipieta.com/ you will see loads of screenshots and examples. It’s impossible to tell you how much this little app will let you research almost any topic on the Church. It includes a full Bible and catechism along with Papal papers and prayers and a full Catholic Calendar! I paid $2.99 for it at the Apple Store.

I also use iMissal for daily readings. Good Luck and keep us posted on your progress!🙂

Ugh, I didn’t think of that. It seems foreign to me, to think of such things as being copyrighted. This modern world…

I certainly will accept donations via PayPal 😃

That looks interesting, I’ve never seen that. Mine is more geared for the PC

Vixit, you probably also ought to familiarize yourself with this section of the Canon Law. Some of the things you are doing may require the approval of your (in-communion-with-Rome) ordinary.

But is it okay to use Catholic software that was created after 1962?

😉 😛 😃

I have written to my bishop before about approval for a book, so I’m familiar with that process. But if all of the stuff in the app already has approval anyways, wouldn’t that automatically approve it?

:DLOL! You have made my afternoon! iPieta includes both the Baltimore and “new” catechism, so it includes something there for both sets, and of course, Latin is also available in this app so no one will feel left out!

They probably have to make sure that nothing is going to be altered. Its just a way for the Church to protect itself from people who may have malicious intent in feigning reproduction of official material when in fact they are changing the words in an effort to confuse Catholics.

I wouldn’t think so, necessarily. As one instance, “To reprint liturgical books [etc.,] an attestation of the ordinary of the place where they are published must establish their agreement with the approved edition.” Similarly, “It is not permitted to reprint collections of decrees or acts published by some ecclesiastical authority unless the prior permission of the same authority has been obtained and the conditions prescribed by it have been observed.”

I’m not a canon lawyer, but I don’t think that, as a Catholic, you can go around printing your own Bibles or Liturgy of the Hours without canonical approval. One would at least want to check, so it’s good that you’ve done similar things in the past.

Is there an iPieta equivalent for the Blackberry?

I am trying to do that same in my mother tongue. So any updates regarding this? Have you released it?
