We are blessed to have Bishop Vasa as our bishop. This diocese is a challenge! He is meeting it with charity and patience. He is a teaching apostle.
Oregon is still considered one of the most “un-churched” parts of the country.
We are praying for vocations and I hope that you find the path that God has planned for you. You would be very needed and welcomed here, and your formation would be guided by a most wonderful bishop, who isn’t afraid to say that he answers to the Holy Father not the USCCB.

I am not sure how to answer the poll…my diocese(Ft.Worth), has a new bishop…my parish however, sadly I would classify as liberal. I am sure there are some traditional Catholics in the parish, but it seems that the libs are in control right now.

Peace be with you…Pam
I’m also in the Fort Worth diocese. As Pam mentioned, I don’t know if Bishop Vann is going to be liberal or conservative.

I belong to one of the conservative parishes and it I thank God for it everyday. We have two great Franciscan priests and a beautiful 1950’s church with stained glass, architecture, etc. We, also, have a parish school. It is the only one in Arlington. The other parishes send their children to one large school in the sourthern part of town.

The new traditional parishes are terrible. We have one in town that can’t keep a priest. Currently, they don’t have one. Very, very sad.

I love my very traditional diocese! Check it out:
Diocese of Peoria
Especially check out what he said in his 4th Festival Letter to parents…it was too good! Here is a teaser:

Many of the same folks who today insist that their children receive all the prescribed inoculations against disease, brush and floss their teeth, exercise, do their homework, practice musical instruments, and prepare for their SATs, apparently wimp out when it comes to the obligation to worship Almighty God.

You gotta love this man!!!

Hi BlestOne - On another thead in this forum “Pater Noster - Holding Hands” ( I think tha’ts what it’s called - sorry I don’t know how to link to a thread) I found a letter from your Bishop from Dec 2004 on the Liturgy, where he permits hand-holding during the Our Father and also the orans posture. (If you go to the thread I posted a link). I think this surprised me - although it doesn’t sound like he’s encouraging hand-holding - just allowing it and he makes a good point about how your focus should be on the Father during this prayer. I was impressed by how he addressed the subject, even though I personally don’t agree with hand-holding. Your diocese seems so orthodox I was wondering if hand-holding was common?

actually it is in my parish, but not in other parishes in our diocese…I don’t personally have a problem with it because when I started holding hands, it was good to hold my young childrens hands to keep them focused on the Our Father rather than disrupting others during the prayer. I know it is a stupid reason for not minding it but I am being honest… It did become a habit and we still do hold hands, mostly cause step-daughter is a very figity child and does distract me unless we all hold hands (and she is 10!) I think this has alot to do with the fact that we are very encouraged to pray together as a family and often when we do this our children do need to be quieted or restrained.

**I said both somewhat traditional because they do follow the Pope and the Magisterium, and I also said they’re very traditional because they’re slowly working with the restorations of the liturgy, becoming Post-Vatican II/Latin Ordo.

Just thought I’d explain how I voted.

My parish does have hand holding at some point during the Liturgy of the Eucharist. Probably during the Our Father, but I’m not sure because I’m still in RCIA and get “dismissed” before the hand holding.

When I did attend the entire Mass, and found myself holding hands with people I didn’t know, it was distracting. There are a lot of people who don’ t like it. Originally, I thought it was because they didn’t want to touch strangers, but now I think it’s the distraction factor. I have to agree.

I suppose you would get accustomed to it, but in the beginning it’s very distracting.

Does this mean my parish is not as traditional as I might have thought?
