I want to get my Rosary blessed by a Dominican priest.

Does anybody know if there is a “traditional” Dominican blessing? I am sure a Dominican would bless a Rosary ad hoc nowadays, or with some blessing approved since the 1970s, but is there one in the Dominican Rituale of the 1960s, and if so, what is it, and is it still valid, and could I find a priest traditional enough (in the UK) to use it?

Many thanks.

Several years ago I lived in an SSPX house and they had a Dominican priest visiting. I ask him if their was a special blessing he could give to my rosary, which had already been blessed. He said there was a traditional Dominican blessing for rosaries and I think there was suppose to be an indulgence attatched to it, but i’m not sure. I don’t know if there is a modern ritual used by the Dominicans.

The only traditional Dominicans I know of are the Friars of La Haye Aux Bonshommes,in France, associated with the SSPX.

The long blessing:
V. Adiutorium nostrum in nomine Domini
R. Qui fecit caelum et terram
V. Dominus vobiscum
R. Et cum spiritu tuo
Oremus.
(Aspergantur aqua benedicta)
The short blessing:
Amen

Wow AJV ! Thanks !

I’m going to take my Rosary and the long blessing to my Dominican parish noon Mass tomorrow and corner a Friar lol. I wonder which one will wish I never asked 😃 (there are seven or eight assigned to the Priory)

I’d never come across that long version before. It is similar to the traditional latin blessing of the St Benedict Medal, in that it has the exorcism in there. I’ll take my St Benedict medal and a copy of that blessing as well, and if the Friar seems receptive of blessing the Rosary, I’ll ask him to bless the medal as well.

Let’s see. I’ll need to have some Holy Water on hand and I’ll need to learn the responses tonight, and practice them on the way to Mass. 🙂

Wow, thanks ! Did I say that yet ? 😛

And levavi, thanks for posting the question !

Thanks to all.

AJV: are these new or old blessings?

I concerned that if I ask for the traditional blessing a Dominican priest will say, “Oh, we have a different one nowadays…”.

They are older blessings. I assume the Dominicans use different ones based on the Book of Blessings but one fo the best places to ask would probably be here.
