The group I know of that is seeking approval is in Toronto. I am hoping they will receive it and I can join them. I am already officially a member of an OFS fraternity so I would have to figure out how to transfer my membership. I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it.Some of the groups allow isolated members to join, but you’d have to check with the group to know that for sure. Some don’t allow it.
Okay, I’m a secular Franciscan too. You can’t just transfer your membership. The situation you’re describing is like the relationship between the Confraternity of Penitents and the SFO.The group I know of that is seeking approval is in Toronto. Thanks for all the information.
No there is no webpage. I think it is waiting for official status before having one.Floresco,
Does the organization you’re referring to have a webpage?
I was afraid it would be something like that. Oh well, there is no point worrying about it now. Other things have to fall into place first. The SFO doesn 't allow you to be a member of it and another 3rd order at the same time. This isn’t at all unusual for third orders. People who want to spend time with another group like the Confraternity of Penitents simply get their newsletters and so on, but stay in the SFO. If they actually want to move to the other group - instead of the SFO - then they have to resign from the SFO formally, and then join the other one formally, going through their formation and all that. There is no path you can use to just transfer.
Thank you for the links, this was helpful.Hi Floresco,
It’s me again.
There are several groups that you can check out and see how traditional they are.
Confraternity of Penitents: penitents.org/
Franciscans of the Immaculate: figuadalupe.wordpress.com/monthly-activities/mim-third-order/
There is John Michael Talbot’s group, although that’s no longer considered strictly Franciscan: littleportion.org/
The Capuchins of the Reform have a group of associates in Brooklyn, NY also. [Don’t know how far across the border you are.]
Now, the interesting part is: You generally have to be near a local group in order to be a member because you have to go to meetings once a month or something like that. Some of these do have many groups; some don’t. I see you are in Canada. You’d have to check to see if there are local groups for these organizations.
Some of the groups allow isolated members to join, but you’d have to check with the group to know that for sure. Some don’t allow it.
You’re welcome.Thank you for the links, this was helpful.
