I am working to establish a Knights of Columbus council at a Traditional Oratory. We are a small Oratory, and I am short by just a couple of men. Are there any current or former Knights of a Traditional bent out there that would consider transferring or reactivating into our Council? Please email me if you’re interested. I could use just a couple extra guys to get me well over my number. I need 30 men and I am hovering at 28. I’m sure we’ll be able to recruit more in the future, but I’d like to get chartered so we can begin having official meetings. Thanks!

Seeing as there is but one service program for the Order (there are not *“ordinary form” *and *“extraordinary form” *programs), I would suggest you broaden your local recruiting a little, rather than transfer remote Knights simply for the sake of numbers. :twocents:

After all, if Byzantine and Latin Catholics can coexist within a council (and I know some who do), I don’t see why Latin Catholics of whatever “bent” cannot, as long as they are all Practical Catholics in union with the Holy See?

Thanks for the (name removed by moderator)ut. However, this council is specifically attached to a Traditional apostolate. The chaplain, while he would welcome members from outside the Oratory, is quite insistent that the council be the men’s organization for the Oratory. I know of two other Councils that are solely traditional councils, and they have several members from all over the country who have joined purposely to be part of a traditional council. I’m looking for Knights like that to add to our Council.

Nothing wrong with that, but to deliberately introduce a litmus test beyond the standard membership qualifications seems to me to go against Columbian Fraternalism. :twocents:

I went to the kofc website and found this:
Chances are that after the first meeting, the required 30 members
needed to start a council will not have been met. The membership
committee, (district deputy, temporary officers and the
insurance representative)
should hold recruitment meetings at
regular intervals to review progress and supplement the membership
drives. Additional organizational meetings should be
held to a necessary minimum, but scheduled promptly so not to
lose the enthusiasm of new members. Candidates will want
action – not oratory!
I highlighted this because my dh, a 4th Degree Sir Knight, thought it might be helpful to you. He also suggests starting a “round table” to meet with the pastor and oratory council to see how the new council can help the oratory. Also, it helps if you can get the pastor on board as either a member (best) or booster. I hope that helps you. 🙂

(The part about the candidates wanting “action – not oratory” sounds ironic under the circumstances, doesn’t it? 😃 )

Starting a new council takes several recruiting drives at more than one parrish. Look also to get men from local Mens clubs at any of the 3 or 4 Churches you should approach. I am Faithful Navigator in my 4th Degree Assembly. I have seen my share of new council development. Remember, Rome wasn’t built in a day.

What about a few fellas from the Lion’s Club, American Legion, or the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR)? Maybe they might want to join an additional organization. Never know who you might find there.🙂
