Traditional Masses Added Since Liberation

Since Benedict XVI liberated the extraordinary form of the Mass, so the pastor of the parish could return the , “Latin Mass”, to parishioners, can we get statistics on how many such masses have been added world-wide?

Not going to give away where I am, but my parish added an EF Mass after the Motu Proprio.

Well, in the Archdiocese of Boston I know that before Summorum Pontificum we had atleast two Parishes that had masses on Sunday. One was the Cathedral and the other was west of Boston. After Summorum Pontificum, a Parish on the North Shore began offering the Latin Mass on Sunday and First Saturdays. I know of one other that offered it for about two years but has since deferred their Latins to the Parish west of Boston. Two others have begun having one or two week day masses in the EF, and they hope to offer Sunday EF once a flock forms.

Unfortunately, the Archdiocese of Boston will be having a major switcharoo with all the Pastors and many of the Parishes are going to be “paired” with a naighbouring Parish. That being said, I fear that many of the Latin Masses with the exception of the Cathedral may take a brief intermission while the Pastors settle.

I am very new to the catholic faith, so please excuse me if this is a silly question. So does this mean we (Traditional catholic) will be allowed to go to a Nova Scotia mass as long as they switch back to latin?

The Tridentine Latin Mass is usually called the Extraordinary Form while the Nova Scotia mass is called the Ordinary Form. You can attend both so long as both are in communion with Rome

I can’t stand it and have to ask: What is a “Nova Scotia Mass” supposed to be? Nova Scotia is a Province of Canada. There is also a type of cold-smoked lox called “Nova Scotia” (named after the aforementioned Province) but Mass???

The only reference I could find was to the “Nova Scotia Mass Choir,” a Black gospel and blues musical group.

I don’t know what a Nova Scotia Mass is but all Catholics, traditional and otherwse, are allowed to attend any Catholic Mass in any form and any rite.

No problem. Allow me to answer again.

ALL Catholics, whether they identify as tradional or other, are allowed to go to **any Catholic Mass **that is in Communion with the Church. It doesn’t matter what rite (Latin, Byzantine, Maronite, etc.) or form (Ordinary Form - what you called Novus Ordo, Extraordinary Form - the Missal of 1962, Anglican Use or Ambrosian). Nor does it matter in which language the Mass is said, although the EF Mass is only licitly said in Latin and some of the Eastern Rite Divine Liturgies are said in other languages.

Agreed, it was funny. Plus it got me to thinking about a nice, Montréal-style bagel (they’re the best), and a good slice of Nova, with a schmear and scallions … mmmm! Shame I don’t have any of the fixings in the house now, but it’s on tomorrow’s shopping list. Makes a lovely summer meal.
