Never mind, I’m unsubscribing.
The board equivalent of storming off in a huff. Why? Because we disagree? Just receive the body of Christ and shut down my spirit and my prayer? I know the Eucharist is at the center, but that is NOT all I need.

I’m going to see the head pastor of the other parish. I will talk to him and abide by his advice.

I agree that the music at Mass should be reverent and that traditional hymns and formats are objectively more suited to this purpose. But why? It is fitting to keep in mind that the music is not meant to merely supplement our experience of the Mass. Primarily, the music is to be presented to Our Lord as an act of worship. It is not for us - it is for Him. It is us offering to Him the finest that we have, not for our own edification, but for His glory. To say that somehow you need “more” than the Eucharist at Mass could indicate a misunderstanding of the nature and purpose of the Mass.

No, I do not think I misunderstand. The Eucharist is the center and purpose. I get that. I also understand that there is more. The is the Liturgy of the Word. There is the homily. There is prayer. I tend to pray through music. Of course it is for HIm. but it is also God’s gift to us. God’s grace is for us too is it not?

I just read this piece and find that I do not misunderstand.

Meaning that I understand Mass is a celebration and a thanksgiving of the sacrifice. It’s not only the going to get communion. It’s more than that. Getting a little off topic.

I went back and checked with what Vatican II had to say about the role of the parish choir. I found out that while encouraging everyone to sing and contribute is a goal, but also that the choir through it’s abilities are able to enrich by adding harmonies and descants and even at times sing alone so the congregation can listen and reflect.

Singing to me IS prayer. If Gregorian chant and more traditional polyphony is the way I crave to participate prayerfully, why is it looked down upon when I wish to find it? Why is seeking more orthodoxy looked down upon?
