"Traditional" OF Wedding Mass Ideas?

What’s going on during the first censing of the altar? Continuation of the bride’s procession song? I know some place the Introit there with another song during the procession, even though it really belongs with the procession.
I figure it can be done during the procession of the priest, groom (me), and bridal party when the introit is sung. Introit can be repeated over and over until the priest is ready.
I don’t know what you mean by “typical” in the OF, but I hope you mean the Responsorial Psalms and Gospel Acclamation will be sung.
Yes and in English. I figure having the Gradual would be a bit much for some although apparently it can be used.
I too am of the opinion that an accompanied Mysterium Fidei breaks the flow. Ideally, the entire ordinary should be chanted unaccompanied but if you use an organ, at least not during the Mysterium Fidei.
Agreed.
No sung Our Father?
Didn’t think about it. I think people are very used to just saying it, but IDK, I’d have to think about that one.
I think the seasonal Marian antiphon should be sung after every Mass, nuptial or not, though I guess if there’s any time to sing a different one, it would be a ritual Mass.
Isn’t Salve Regina the antiphon during ordinary time? I love Salve Regina, but I kind of wanted something different. Unless you mean really after Mass, then that would be a neat idea.
I know most traditionalists don’t like Mendelssohn’s Wedding March as being inappropriate for a church.
I think Mendelssohn’s is considered OK. The Bridal Chorus is considered the inappropriate one because of the context surrounding it.

So the altar is censed before the bridal procession?

The Gradual is a good choice but it wouldn’t be my first choice either.

Shouldn’t the Presentation of the Flowers be after Mass immediately following the dismissal where many communities sing the Marian antiphon? There’s no provisions for it during Mass.

Yes, I can’t think of any other way of doing it. The process takes a bit of time, so I figured it would flow best if done during the procession of the groom. I’ll talk to the priest about it.

Unsure as I’ve never actually seen it done in person. Another thing I’ll have to ask.

I guess I’ve never heard the Mysterium Fidei sung in an OF mass except without the blaring organ going over it. I just don’t like going from the solemnity of the consecration transitioning to a song. IMO it breaks the moment.

Having the Mysterium Fidei just chanted without organ would be nice.
Do it unaccompanied! 🙂 It’s a very good tone.

It’s wonderful you are trying to include lots of traditional music in your wedding mass! But instead of Mendelssohn, I would suggest listening to some other processional-type pieces and see if you like anything better, since many churches put the Mendelssohn march in the same category with the Wagner. catholicweddinghelp.com/topics/wedding-procession.htm

Everything you need for a “traditional” OF wedding Mass, for the Propers and Ordinary, can be found in the Graduale Romanum (post-Vatican II 1974 edition). For the parts sung by the priest, a good Latin altar missal should have what he needs. Some can also be found in the Graduale, even tones for chanting the readings.

Bumping a super old thread- but it’s got some good stuff!

I am surprised no one mentioned using the Roman Canon! When I was discussing my OF wedding Mass with my parish priest (before DF and I switched to having an EF done at the parish in a neat by town), we were told that the Canon for weddings didn’t have to be used, and that the Roman Canon was perfectly fine.

So- OP… what ended up happening?

There is a canon for weddings?

Maybe Canon is the wrong word…
Eucharistic Prayer for weddings… or something. I know the one at my sister’s Nuptial Mass wasn’t one I had heard before- hers being the first Nuptial Mass I had ever attended.

HA! I knew it!

The website you have stated doesn’t give a ‘Canon’ or any other Eucharistic Prayer for weddings. It only states a few options for a matrimony-specific Preface, but that is variable for every Mass anyway. For the Eucharistic Prayer, the same website in fact prescribes Eucharistic Prayers I to III, which come from the Roman Missal. These are the same as those used for any other Mass. To my knowledge, there is no such thing as a Eucharistic Prayer for weddings.

Anyway, even if there was a Eucharistic Prayer for weddings, it would be wrong to call it a ‘Canon’. ‘Canon’ can only be used to refer to what is otherwise called Eucharistic Prayer I, because it has remained unchanged for many centuries, or at least largely so until St Joseph’s name was inserted. All the other Eucharistic Prayers are new compositions made in the last century. 🙂
