Peace and All Good!

I hope everyone here is doing well & blessed!!

I’ve been thinking recently about how neglected, relatively speaking, Guardian Angels seem to be. Especially in my own life up 'til now but also generally, they seem to barely get a mention these days :(.

Anyway, I’m hoping to discover some Traditional prayers for the Assistance of your Guardian Angel and some particular Traditional practices and Devotions surrounding them. I’d be really grateful for any pointers or prayers!

I recently read some of Padre Pio’s Letters & he had such an amazing devotion to his Guardian Angel & really encouraged others to be devoted to theirs, which is what really made me start thinking about it (If only mine could have helped me with my Greek & Hebrew classes at University… :D)

I do remember vaguely being taught the “O Angel of God, my Guardian dear…” prayer when I was knee high to a grasshopper, but as far as I can remember, that was about the extent of it.

Thanks a lot for all your help!!

I found this site very helpful…

I don’t know if there are many prayers specifically that one can say to their guardian angel. I often say free-form mental type prayers to my guardian angel, such as…“dear guardian angel, please help guide me today, and help me with (such and such issues)…”

I also thank my guardian angel when it’s obvious that I’ve been helped with little situations.

And a very fine prayer it is too.

Holy Angel, attendant of my wretched soul and my afflicted life, do not desert me a sinner, nor depart from me because of my weakness. Give no place to the evil demon to rule me by dominating this mortal body. Take my wretched and feeble hand and lead me in the way of salvation. Yes, holy Angel of God, guardian and protector of my wretched soul and body, forgive me for every grief I have caused you all the days of my life, and if I have sinned in anything this day. Protect me during the present night and preserve me from every attack of the enemy, so that I may not anger God through any sin. And intercede for me to the Lord so that he may strengthen me in his fear, and make me a worthy servant of his goodness. Amen.

I am 66 years old and I still pray the “Guardian Angel Prayer” daily. I do our parishes R.C.I.A. and every year have a session on angels and how we should be devoted to them.

The Guardian Angel features quite prominitely in Eastern Prayers, perhaps you could them a try.
O Holy Angel, attendant of my wretched soul and of mine afflicted life, forsake me not, a sinner, neither depart from me for mine incontinency. Give no place to the evil demon to subdue me with the oppression of this mortal body; but take me by my wretched and outstretched hand, and lead me in the way of salvation. Yea, O holy Angel of God, the guardian and protector of my hapless soul and body, forgive me all things whatsoever wherewith I have troubled thee, all the days of my life, and if I have sinned in anything this day. Shelter me in this present night, and keep me from every affront of the enemy, lest I anger God by any sin; and intercede with the Lord in my behalf, that He might strengthen me in the fear of Him, and make me a worthy servant of His goodness. Amen.
O Angel of Christ, my holy Guardian and Protector of my soul and body, forgive me all my sins of today. Deliver me from all the wiles of the enemy, that I may not anger my God by any sin. Pray for me, sinful and unworthy servant, that thou mayest present me worthy of the kindness and mercy of the All-holy Trinity and the Mother of my Lord Jesus Christ, and of all the Saints. Amen.

Oh, and if you’re up for some really long praying, there’s the Canon to the Guardian Angel and the Akathist to the Guardian Angel

Thanks for your post, Mike

It is a wonderful prayer, I didn’t intend to appear critical of it in the Original Post, it just seems a shame that when I was growing up, the Angels, especially our Guardian Angels, never seemed to be discussed or taught about much.🤷 It seems like a real shame if you ask me

I’m glad the Angels are mentioned in RCIA in more detail 👍🙂

Thanks, Errham! I did wonder if there were many prayers or devotions to the Guardian Angel in the Eastern Catholic or Orthodox Churches, I am very grateful for your (name removed by moderator)ut.

God Bless
