Traditional Religious Communities for Women?

Greetings,

I am aware of several religious communities of men who use the 1962 missal for their liturgies. I haven’t been able to find any for women that are not affiliated with the SSPX. Can anyone help me out? Thank you and God bless.

just curious why would you want to find a community that only uses the extraordinary form (key word in there extraordinary) not trying to criticize or anything, but I don’t know if a community using a pre vat 2 missal and not following the liturgy of Paul VI would be a good religious order to join. You could join a very traditional community but why a pre vat 2 one.

If they are 1962 version missals, they are for Mass, not liturgy.

Really? Hm, well there are LOTS of communities that use the 1962 missal. The Pope allows this explicitly.

If they are 1962 version missals, they are for Mass, not liturgy.

Typically when a community uses the 1962 Missal they also use 1962 books for other rites like Benediction, Confirmation, etc., which is not just mass.

Lol it’s fine. Even before Summorum Pontificum there were many groups, both religious and secular, which used the 1962 Missal. Some of them use the old Missal exclusively, while some use it alongside the Pauline Missal.

There is a cloistered Carmelite Convent in Elysberg, PA that celebrates the EF exclusively. They are served by FSSP priests and the bishop periodically visits. They are so old school that I don’t think they have a website.

I just want to caution that seeking a vocation to a community simply because they use the 1962 Missal might lead to heartache later on. There is much more to a community than the missal they use. Each community has its own particular charism, and it exists primarily to carry out that charism (cloistered contemplatives, teaching, missionary, care of the sick, the poor, the elderly, to name a few). One should be seeking a fit with one’s vocation towards that charism, and seeking a fit within the community itself, rather than seeking a community primarily for the form of Mass it celebrates (unless the community’s primary charism, like the FSSP, is to promote the EF Mass).

In any event you can be sure if the community has a discernment process, that they will weed out those who aren’t a good fit for the community and its charism.

The 1962 Missal isn’t “pre-Vatican II” if that means rejecting the council or any Church teachings since, anymore than Pope Benedict XVI is a “pre-Vatican II” Pope.
