Good Day, when I was in Quebec City about 2 years ago, I purchased some religious articles from what I thought to be a Roman Catholic group of nuns. It turns out that they were sedevacantists… One book I bought from them is Methods for saying the Holy Rosary with fruit according to St. Louis Mary de Montfort. It contains 3 methods of saying the Rosary, some prayers to Mary and Jesus before and after Holy Communion as well as the 15 mysteries of The Rosary of The Passion. Does anybody know if these are legitimate Catholic Practices (obviously I know the rosary itself is Catholic) and based on the writings of a saint or where I could find some of the writings of St. Louis de Montfort on the matter.

Since the rosary is a private devotion, there are no rubrics that govern it. There are different ways. St. Louis de Montfort is probably the most popular. There are some prayers that Our Lady taught the children at Fatima. The Dominicans have a method. The Franciscans have another. Several other saints have their own. Today we have a couple of other ones. Pope John Paul’s method is one and there is the Rosary for Life. I’m not sure who developed that method. It may have been Priests For Life.

The traditional Dominican Rosary has 15 decades. The traditional Franciscan Rosary has only seven. It is also called the Franciscan Crown Rosary. Pope John Paul’s has 20 decades. Someone told me that the Rosary for Life has nine, but I don’t really know. You can pick whichever method best nurtures your devotion to Our Lady.

Fraternally,

You must mean that order in Quebec of the Magnificat at St-Jovite? I once met them here in Toronto (they follow the books of Montfort and wear a Crucifix over the heart and a Rosary, as described by St Louis in his writings).

Their methods are fine, as they just take from the writings of Montfort. (They have beatified several of their own saints, including the Canadian Franciscan, Brother Didace Pelletier).

Thanks I was worried about using their prayer mini book after I found out they were sedevacantists. They did have one interesting “custom” though. The bless themselves "In the Name of The Father, The Son and The Holy Ghost and The Holy Mother of God.
I know we as Catholics have great Marian devotion but I doubt the Virgin is part of the Trinity formula.

It seems to me the group in question might not be merely sedes. Marian devotion is a great thing, but judging from that, shall we call it, “unusual” formula, one might say the group in question takes it just a wee bit beyond devotion and could well be straying into the realm of heterodoxy.

There was a group of sisters that were pushing the Quadrinity, that is that Mary is part of the Godhead.

The Quadrinity??? Is this endorsed by the Church or just this group of sedevacantists?

Nope, the Church has always taught that there is one God in three persons: Father, Son, Holy Spirit. One God, each person fully God.

Our Lady is the greatest saint of all the saints, but she is still human, not divine in any way.

Anyone that teaches that Mary is divine or part of the God-Head or anything similar to this is not teaching what the Church teaches and is seriously heterodox.

No, not endorsed by the Church (nor, for that matter, even real sedes). I was trying to be charitable and circumspect in my earlier post, but what they espouse is heresy.

This is a exerpt from (Canonization of St. Louis Marie de Montefort)
The speaker was Pope Pius XII " you will draw from the treasury of the writings and example of our saint that which constitutes the basis of his Marian devotion: "
My life was dramatically changed after I made my :“Total Consecration to Jesus thru Mary” according to the Saints book on True Devotion.
Methods for saying the Rosary is listed on their site.
