As another aside the manutiguriam, the white cloth that is tied around the priests hands after annointing with oils, is used to also cleanse his hands after the ceremony. This linen cloth is then given the new Priest’s mother after Mass.

When the priests mother dies she is buried with her Son’s manutiguriam. This is a visible sign to all who come to her funeral that she is the mother of a priest.

The new rite of ordination eliminated the manutiguriam. I personally think there has been a great loss in the Church with all of the reforms of the sacraments.
 
The theolpgy is the same. The sacraments are the same, just done in the vernacular. Everything else is the same.

Poce, I think you are very naive in your statement. Have you even LOOKED at the differences? If you had you would NOT make such a statement.

Like the said before, the bare minimum is the same.

Technically all a priest has to say is “This is my body” and “This is my Blood” with proper intention and matter and the Eucharist is confected. Would you consider this Mass? Show up and leve in 5 minutes?

Of course you would not. There is more to a sacramanet than just the bare minimum. If there wasn’t then there would not be any ritual at all. The theology behind the ritual points to why the ritual is the way it is.

There are very real differences between the old and new forms of the sacraments. This leads to a very different theology and orthopraxis. It is just one more reason why so many Cahtolics know nothing of their faith. They don’t even hear or see the theology behind the sacraments in the rutal any more.

Well my brother(a priest) gave this to my mother quite recently. So while its become less popular it hasn’t been eliminated.

It is not part of the Rite in the Ordinary Form, no, but I have seen several ordination videos in the OF in which the maniturgium is used. The tradition is for it to bind the priest’s mother’s hands when she dies.
 
Actually it is not to bind his mothers hands. It is just to be present with her, to show the world that she is the mother of a Priest.

In the Novus Ordo it has no official use in the ceremony. It may be used to wipe the hands of the new priest.
