traditional?

Now I recently heard that some were being offended by a certian internet talking head (WHO WILL NOT BE NAMED IN THIS THREAD PERIOD) and the problem was he was prejudiced against TRADITIONAL (or for possibly it does not matter here) Catholics.

What is the definition of Traditional that we are going by on this forum. because in these and similar discussions I have seen multiple people talking about TRADITIONAL Catholics who all seem to have there own variation on what that word should mean. A bit of the fallacy of non equivocation.

I always understood a traditional catholic to be one in line with the Pope who loves this Papal church that has been handed down to us by the apostles through the successors of Peter (like myself). Obviously this is a presumptuous, biased definition. Can I have a more accurate definition that might be a useful lens to view this word through when reading things on this site.
 
It is sometimes used as you just said, to mean, essentially, practicing, non-dissenting Catholics and sometimes used to refer to those who prefer the EF of the Mass (that is, the Latin Mass), among other things. For the most part, the second group is a subset of the first group.

Sometimes you’ll here the word “traditionalist” to refer to the second group.
 
It’s been my general observation, that at least here on CAF Traditional forum, that “traditional” tends to refer to those who perfer the Latin (Tridentine or EF) Mass and have some problems with VII, or the post-conciliar time of the church.

That is a big generalization on my part, but seems to be the vibe I get.
 
So if I use the word to mean Catholics actually as apposed to Catholics as they please I will likely be misunderstood.

Yes. I think you would likely be misunderstood. Perhaps use faithful/practicing/conservative Catholic instead.

Occasionally, probably. “Orthodox Catholics” usually gets the point across, if you need to make that distinction.

thank you but I don’t see the relevance to my question. you must have had one could you elaborate. How does this help me understand how the definition of traditional is viewed on this site? thank you for your time and (name removed by moderator)ut
