Some of the things he has said haven’t been prudent to say the least and he certainly needs some good spiritual direction, along with some fraternal and brotherly accountability.

That being said despite his lapses and mistakes, which appear to come from a spiritual individualism at times. Some of his theological points are spot on. The old covenant is abolished and no longer in effect and the Jews do need to be baptised to be saved.

Most people when they critque Sungenis, do so with a heavy dose of ad-hominen. People need to look at the substance of his arguments and the church documents he quotes from, when critquing his points, instead of resorting to uncharitable name calling and slander.

Pray for him,

Eric

Hmmm. I don’t know these most people Eric is talking about who are mean to Mr. Sungenis. I think Mr. Sungenis is the one who’s mean and attacks people and people have just had enough of it. 😦 I know I have. I know that he has big problems with his bishop on all of his hateful writing on Jews. There was just some articles put up about it on another post.

I keep praying.

Sungenis has taken legitimate criticism for denying the scriptural and patristic teaching that the Jews will convert at the end of time.

His position about the Antichrist, however, can be supported by such Fathers as St. Cyril [catechetical lecture 15], the homily on Antichrist attributed to St. Hippolytus, and Pope Gregory the Great, among others.

I never denied that Mr.Sungenis doesn’t attack other people. But equally people like Mark Shea, have said some pretty nasty things in return. As they say two wrongs don’t make a right. As for issues with his bishop, well many people disagree with the actions and theology of the bishops in the US. What is important is that we give them our obedience when required, as far as I know Sungenis hasn’t crossed the line of disobedience. He disagrees with the bishops theological view point on the old covenant, having looked at the sources he quoted from the church councils, I think Sungenis has a fair point.

By all means disagree with Sungenis, but it should be done in a spirit of charity. Hopefully Rome, may bring some clarity on this matter.

That’s my thought at least.🙂

Sungenis is a believer in geocentrism.

To believe in any thing that Sungenis writes on is like believing in non-flat-earth subjects that a flat-earther writes about. You have to be very circumspect. As for me I don’t read any of his stuff; too risky.

Some people go overboard, IMO. But I think even that’s understandable when you put out the kind of hate that Sungenis has put out about Jewish people for so long.

Aren’t you more concered about all the hateful things Sungenis wrote for so long that caused all the reactions? Have you written about that? If you have great. It would help to see it.

Okay, but you don’t seem concerned about it, either (at least that I’ve seen). Again though, when you say the hateful things Sungenis has said for so long, I have a lot more understanding for people like Shea who react against it than I do for Sungenis. Sungenis started it all and kept it going by putting out this horrid venom for a long time now.

His bishop put him under orders to stop writing about Jewish topics and Sungenis said no. Instead he slandered his bishop.

Sure. But, at least to me, it would help if you were at least as concerned with Sungenis’ horrible behavior.

I not going to get in a sparring match with you, on who said what and on who said this and on who said what. As it goes against the spirit of the point I am trying to make. People should make their point, but they should do it in a Christian manner. leave out the ad hominem’s etc. It doesn’t matter who the person is. It’s bad Christian witness and it goes against the gospel message and plays into the hands of the devil.

As you see there are some people already on this thread who have already started the ad hominem’s.

Its not good folks. We are meant to be building the Church up not tearing it down. “Blessed are the peacemakers”.

I do not think that Bob Sungenis is an anti-Semite. This is serious charge which gets thrown around all too lighty these days, that is, without proper evidence.

I do think that Sungenis is, righty, troubled by some of the ways that Zionism – a modern secular political ideology – has influenced Christians in how they think about Jews and Judaism in a religious sense. This is a serious theological matter, which, unfortunately, is not being given attention it deserves. It must be understood that it is a very new phenomenon in the Church.

You raise some very good points. Its a shame these issues cant be discussed in a rational manner.
