where does it say in the bible to do confession, seven sacraments, rosamary, saints, pray to mary, etc.

why don’t we just read the bible instead of traditions such as these.

Firstly, because Scripture alone isn’t something that was ever practiced in the early Church.

Here are some quotes from staycatholic.com

Tradition:
  • Matthew 15:3, Mark 6:8, Mark 7:9, and Colossians 2:8 - Human traditions condemned
2 Thessalonians 2:15 - Believers commanded to hold fast to Sacred Tradition
2 Thessalonians 3:6 - Shun those not living according to Sacred Tradition
1 Corinthians 11:2 - Corinthians commended for maintaining the traditions handed down to them
Romans 16:17 - Avoid those who are in opposition to the doctrine which you have been taught
Not Scripture alone:
  • 2 Timothy 3:16-17 - Scripture is profitable for teaching, that the man of God may be complete
Acts 8:26-35 - But guidance is needed to interpret the Scriptures
1 Timothy 3:15 - The Church (not the Bible) is the pillar and foundation of truth
Acts 2:42 - Church followed apostolic teaching (no Bibles, printing press not invented yet)
2 Peter 1:20 - Scripture is not a matter of ones own interpretation
2 Peter 3:16 - The ignorant and unstable twist Scripture to their own destruction
Proverbs 3:5 - Do not rely on your own insight
Hope this helps your ever growing list of topics…

problem solved. thankyou so much for answering all my questions.

You have received excellent advice from Conall.

I would add to it that it appears you are in danger (in this topic) of establishing a false dichotomy–the idea that one should ‘read the Bible instead of doing X, Y, Z’.

Now this means you have assumed that Catholics in praying the rosary (the prayers of which are Scriptural), having sacraments (which are implicitly found in Scripture) etc. are doing these things ‘only’ and are not reading the Bible (which of course is not the case) or ‘should be’ **only **‘reading the Bible’ which again is not in itself what Scripture tells us we should ‘only’ be doing!!

God bless you!

Glad to have been of service.

Thanks for the compliment Tantum, and thanks for continuing with the lesson on the unnecessary constraints that are so often built up. =)

Here is an excellent apologetic sheet with many “issues” and where to find the Catholic teaching in the Bible, print it out and keep it handy.

We must also not forget that the canon of Scripture is, itself, a Tradition!

Amen! Down with the tradition of Man. Traditions like Sola Scriptura, Sola Fide, Once Saved Always Saved, the Rapture etc!

Let’s do exactly what the Bibles tells us to do!
  1. First find the Church the Bible tells us about that will be protected from the Gates of Hell in Matthew 16: 18
  2. Go to the Church as our foundation for Truth. 1 Tim 3:16
  3. Hold Fast the Traditions we received both written and orally from Her! 2 Thess 2 15!
OP are you ready to deny the Traditions of Man! I am! Welcome to CAF BTW! 👍
